I haven't read through this whole thread, but regarding accessing the computers in the store I have some advice. I used to be a vendor for Home Depot and Lowes. We used the computers to check how our products was moving at a store level. We also check how our competitors were doing, even though they didn't want us to the stores didn't care what we did. HD has a vendor password and login that never changes, but Lowes changes theirs everyday. If you act like your a vendor and pick a product to rep they won't think to question you or most of the time even bother you at all. In 8 years of using their computers I had one store manager ask me what I was doing.

That begs the question.......What is it?

There is a difference between using the public computers and the applications authorized by corporate for public use, and hacking into their computer system for profit. Yeah, I said hacking. If you go using a vendor log-on ID under false pretences, and you use the computers to get deals, you could be committing a criminal act. I wouldn't go there.

I just bought the Milwaukee top using the inventory transfer/phone sale method.plus got 10% off just for asking.

can you give a little detail on how you did this?
did you go to the store with the item in stock at a higher price and phone to the store with the lower price? did you talk to both managers first? Did you discuss the price difference.
I have failed at several attempts to make this happen. Any advice would be appreciated.

My store has dropped the 2630-20 M18 circular saw to a NLP of $99 from $119. Doesn't show as clearance because it's just an "NLP" right now.

I realize many stores have already clearanced these, but I'm wondering if the NLP could signal an impending clearance? Anyone seen this behavior, or is it simply a new price & nothing more?

yes I talked with both mgrs, explained what I was trying to do.went to first store and they had them in the computer at clearance price 199, but 0 inventory.so i talked with the mgr and he said if the other store agreed it would be no problem.showed in stock at second store so I went there and they were not clearance priced in the price check app.so I again talked to a store mgr and he called the other mgr and handed me the phone and I gave credit card info and left with the box.I asked for 10% off for the inconvenience of having to drive to 2 stores.

Did you even try asking the 2nd store if they would adjust the price to the lower amount?

I purchased a handful of these saws a week ago @30.03 each...so it should have room to drop more.

 I bow to your superior length of time as a registered user of this board.

But seriously -- no offense intended. I had edited out that snide little quip right after I posted it, but it looks like you captured it during my edit. Sorry about that. No offense intended, just a wisecrack that I probably shouldn't have made.

I was primed to make that wisecrack because this afternoon I got harassed by PM from someone who hasn't even been participating in this thread, but asked for me to give him one of my acquisitions for nothing. You obviously know how much legwork can go into finding deals, so you know most of us aren't inclined to give away our acquisitions for nothing to someone who doesn't even try to participate in the hunt.

I don't usually scan for Makita but now that I know the SKU I'll add it to my scan list and I'll post here if I see it.

On the subject of asking for a heads-up:

I'm wondering if the DeWalt 20-v MAX tool-only drills have ever come up on clearance, like the 3/8" DCD780B (superceded by the DCD790B), or the 1/2" DCD985B (superceded by the DCD995B). I've searched the entire thread for them but haven't seen them.

I have the a complete 20v-MAX charger/batteries/sawzall kit already, and I'm looking for tool-only drill to go with it.

Does anyone know if the DCD780B or the DCD985B models have already clearanced?
I must be the nice guy then. I will offer people here my extra items I don't need for what I paid plus shipping.

Some people may be out of town when deals show up, some people may not live by a store, some may just not have deals at close stores.

I remember last year when Menards was clearing out gear wrench sets dirt cheap. The closest store to me is 500 miles away probably, but two people sold me extra sets they didn't need for costs plus shipping.

I have used a lot of time just looking for items I didn't need personally because I knew someone here might need it.

I wonder how many people read these deal threads and find or look for deals but just never post.

I wish there was a way for us to see how many different visitors go to a thread each day.

I share that sentiment. I'm all for helping fellow hunters. We're all putting in the time and effort. The way the hunt goes, you can spend a lot of time looking for things but still not find them in your area, while someone else might not even be looking for that item and he'll have plenty in his store. It makes sense for hunters to help each other and I'm more than willing to do that.

What I'm not so keen on is having someone else -- who hasn't spent a minute of his time participating in this thread, and hasn't spent a single 14-hour day driving to 10 different HD stores -- expect that he's entitled to the fruits of my labor. Nobody's entitled to anything. When someone who isn't even a hunter, someone who I've never even heard of, comes along with the expectation that he should get my time and effort for free when he hasn't been willing to put in any time or effort, that tells me that he thinks that my time has no value.

I'm all for helping fellow hunters, as we're all in the game together. But my good will stops there. I've spent many days driving from store to store and many tanks of gas on the road, looking in the rafters, getting dirty crawling on the floor, and getting yelled at by the Wicked Witch. I've ******* my capital, sometimes deployed for weeks to do an R&R. When someone I don't even recognize, someone who hasn't been putting in the effort, comes along with the expectation for me to give him a handout, the answer is going to be no. I don't want to be exploited by some total stranger who's been sitting on his *** while he lets me to do all the legwork.

I wonder how many people read these deal threads and find or look for deals but just never post.

Not posting, not participating and not helping others in some way makes you an outsider in my book. As far as I'm concerned, if you're not even participating in the thread then you aren't entitled to any form of hunter-to-hunter support.

A fellow hunter? He's a different case altogether. I'm happy to help him if I found something that I don't really need. But an outsider or a lurker who doesn't post? Let that guy to buy on CL or ebay.

Just got a Hitachi framing nailer for 92. I also found one of the Dewalt portable table saws from this winter that was the special buy, they changed them to regular stock and it was full price now.

I guess I must be one of the ones your talking about. Maybe if this thread was more welcoming. New people might post more. Has something happened here before that causes everyone to be so standoffish?

Is there some kind of list of expectations for someone to be able to post here. Maybe some kind of hazing.

I've seen complainants if someone comes in and asks a question that has been answered before. I spent some time reading back through the old posts so I didn't do that. I've posted a few times and rocket was the only one who ever replied with anything. Rocket gave me a link to where to go introduce myself.

My name is Charles. I live in Central NC. I enjoy tools and I have always enjoyed looking for good deals. I've been one to head straight to the clearance section long before this thread. I have learned from reading in here and I've tried to come in and say thank you.

Here is a screen shot from a store in Eastern NC. I had to travel over to that area this week and I saw these.

Just the last two days I have noticed an oddity at my local HD's.
SKU 460351 Milwaukee M18 Driver/Impact Kit shows $399 in the price checker app, but the shelves have a yellow sticker for $359.
Same this is being seen on SKU 111435. Price checker shows $299, but the shelves show $269.

Is anyone else seeing things like this?

Yes. I wasn't able to find any in the store, but if you know any stores that carry Senco it might be worth checking.

I was super excited when I spotted a Fuel Impact in the back of one of the shelves. I opened the case just to be sure and someone had swiped the impact and one battery. They swapped a brushed impact with the fuel one. I talked to the guy in the tool department and told him what I found. He was nice and helped me look around to see if we could find another one or the loose tool to go in the case. He offered to knock off $5 if I would go ahead and buy it. The impact and battery were worth way more than the $5 reduction, but it was still an acceptable price. I'm still hoping to find one of the fuel impacts. I've probably been to 6 stores and no luck so far. I have several of the other fuel tools and they are awesome.

If you can wait, the .04 will drop to a .02 price which will be substantial savings

Went to my HD today, and there were no deals to be found. Not a single Bostitch nailer, or Milwaukee bare tool to be found anywhere. It's a smaller market and they don't have much inventory anyways.

I wandered back to the electrical section and they had the Milwaukee meters reduced a little bit, but nowhere near enough to buy. I bought the clamp-on brand new on e-bay a while back for about $55, and the multimeter new for about $50.

Something is off. We were looking everywhere. One guy even went and searched Receiving for me. I walked the whole store.... Multiple times. Probably walked through tools 7-8 times along with two additional aisles to the left and right. Under, behind and in between.

I think I'm going to buy a cheap set of binoculars to look at the top stock model numbers and sku's. Some are hard to see because they have them stacked so high.

That's the one I would like to find. I have the 2603 Drill/Driver and it's an awesome tool. I like it much better than the DeWalt I had before.

It's not uncommon to have stores that show a small inventory that can't be found. Sometimes that's due to customers having ferreted away the merchandise to come back later and get it at the 03 price; sometimes that's due to employees backrooming them for the 24 hours cool-off period; sometimes it's because the store is in a high theft area that has a lot of shrinkage and those items have been stolen; sometimes it's because there is really merchandise that is still available, and even though you've looked pretty hard, you just haven't looked hard enough to find it.

The real problem is that that SKU has been 03'd for a couple of weeks now. It's stale. The longer that items has been 03'd the less your chances are of finding them because you're coming into the game late in the fourth quarter. By the time a deal gets posted in this thread chances are it's already gone. By the time that you read about an SKU here the whole world knows about it. If you react to the postings here, chances are that you'll be going to a store looking for a deal that thousands of other people already know about.

Searching for an SKU that's old enough to be a fossil is not likely to pay off unless you're really lucky. In the end, the guys who succeed the most often are the proactive guys, not the reactive guys. The proactive guys are committed and efficient. They might start at 5 am, hit 10 stores a day and hit a different set of stores every time they go out. By the time that an SKU gets mentioned here chances are it's gone from any store that's within their hunting range. IMO reading about SKUs in this thread isn't going to help you find deals. You have to be the guy who finds them, the guy who is at home with the loot by the time most people start reading about the deals here. There's no substitute for getting up early and shaking the bushes.

True to some extent. But I started checking sku's posted on here a few weeks ago and the deals being posted weren't "deals" in my area, YET. I just started seeing the Milwaukee marked down just yesterday and I hit several stores looking for it last weekend. So it's somewhat regional or even per district.

Congratulations. I know you must be excited. I watch some of the live feeds from the new tools symposium. The gen 2's look really good.

I feel like there is a lot of this happening. I made at least a dozen trips to the HD near me to waiting to get the M18 grinder and circ saw at $.03 level. One day there was 8 or 10 of each located in multiple areas at full price. A couple days later every single one was gone.

Snagged a second Bostitch 15ga finish nailer today. They had two plastic cases in overhead. One had a nailer in it but no pack of nails, the other had the pack of nails but no nailer. Searched all around but couldnt find it. Figured it was probably a display that got sold without the case. They let me stick the nails in with the nailer so I left the empty case in store.
