Stopped by Portsmouth NH on my way home tonight. Found two items that I think should have been penny, one being ten pack two foot T12 (2 boxes) and the other being the electrical tool set mentioned the other day. Neither were in the app, but both came up as see attendant... The tool set was with all the lighting books at the lighting computer and the bulbs were just on a clearance end cap.

Could someone have programmed the computer to say see attendant for penny items? Lady was trying to help and find a price and I just walked out and said not to bother.

My point is that the blue tape is not "masking tape" and should NOT stick to glass. You seem to be mixing "apples and oranges" and it seems you are misusing the product, and really want masking tape, the tan colored tape. 3M painters tape won't stick to glass either.

Lol, are you really trying to be serious? And does your head explode when you get a roll of Shurtape that is labelled paint masking tape? "Painters" tape is strictly a marketing name for masking tape. I suggest you review the commercial 3m catalog for a education about masking tape.

For those looking for the Husky top box in Atlanta.

Cascade rd (atlanta) Home Depot has the Husky $25 top box. No box but looks perfect and keys are taped inside.

For all you guys saying that I have the receipt and I now own the items. This happened to me
last night with my meter purchase. I was stopped but all ready had my email receipt before the cashier printed out the real paper receipt at her registrar at the self cash out lanes, I quess they can bypass it to theirs. Well any way I am a police officer in Florida, I carry my id around my neck with my badge while off duty mainly I always do that because I don't carry a wallet my bage holder is my wallet and I keep a couple of credit cards in it.

I have been stopped before and never say I'm a cop, never flash my badge, at them. That would be the dumbest thing I could ever do. But I do challenge them like I did last night when I had already purchased the items. They tried the whole we can't sell a penny thing and then I told her speak to the manger. She did and then let me have it.

If they would have called the local police I would have told them they can have it. This isn't worth it we will side with the retailer, specially if they tell us this was a price mistake. So please don't walk out with your stuff, because if you get stopped by a security guard at the door and some are idiots, they ,might want to grab you to try to stop you. Then you'll have a bigger problem on your hands.

Just give it to them take a picture of the receipt, or do like I did email it to yourself, then email corporate or call them and tell them how they treated you and how they still have your items. They will most likely get back for you and ream the manger or refund your money.
It's up to you, but to me you win some you lose some.

According to this, corporate policy is if the customer finds the penny item, they can purchase it.

Yea they been slowly telling people that they are no supposed to sell penny items I emailed Home Depot weeks ago after the issue I had with a manger over the shower trim kits that I grabbed. He made a generic SKU number and gave them to me for 5 bucks each. I emailed corporate and they called me and apologized. I didn't even ask for anything in the email just for them to talk to the manger and the guy in pluming. They said they had already contacted the store. But the representative stated that they are not allowed to sell penny items because they are recalled items? What ever that means.

I know some people have called and have been told they can't purchase Penney items. So maybe they are changing thier policy now? Who knows

The policy seems really idiotic to me. Of course it's great for us to find items for a penny, but I'm sure it's creating a lot of headaches for the corporate office. Marking the item down to a penny doesn't seem like it's intended to clear the item out, that's the weird part. I don't know of any other retailer that discounts clearance inventory like this.

^^^I swear they track what you buy from the surveys. I get emails asking to review items I swear I purchased IN-STORE.

Someone else asked via PM how they track cash customers. Nearly all stores are tracking customers now, even if you pay with cash. Easiest to track is by credit card, but lacking that most commonly they use your cell phone - even if "turned off", they can read the unique number in the phone when you walk in the store. They are also using video and identification from that, as well as some other methods.

Bottom line, there is no real anonymity anymore.

I had a similar experience last week...will spare you the details. Sent email and lady called me back and the message she left on my phone sounded like she said I should not have been able to buy the item...but the manager didn't sell it to me so I'm not sure what she was trying to convey. She was out of the office yesterday but back in today. I plan to call her and press for details...

Maybe they are wising up and changing policy. Honestly I could care less...most of the worthwhile items I get are .x3 priced, just freaking be consistent and make sure people are informed.

$80 in these parts. I would really like one as I have the $5 or so HF version. Saw one last week at the local reseller of HD returns/clearance items. I can't believe they took it back as it was bent to about 25 degrees. Only thing I got was a Ramset. $90 one with a trigger in like new condition for $40. Needed it for my basement project.
Yeah, the floor model was all bent out of shape and had the $69 yellow sticker. I asked the sales guy nicely to bring down a new one, which he did. He smiled when he scanned it. BTW, loss prevention guy was near by just watching.

I guess I don't understand how some items drop out of the system immediately and others stay penny forever.

I don't know of any other retailer that discounts clearance inventory like this.

Dollar General does penny items. ToysRUs does 3 cent items. I think there are some others (Borders?0 but i don' really shop those. Basically the same inconsistent policies about selling the items and the same lame excuses and the same ratio of sale?no sale.

I would like to understand the accounting principals that drive it better, but I long ago decided to quit trying to understand it and just profit... ummm... benefit from it. I rarely get penny items, I am a buyer at 75%/.03 if possible. I will ask the managers for an additional discount if I buy them all and that is 50/50.

Someone asked why not mark the items way way up instead of to a penny to ensure someone doesnt buy them.

I think they use a penny because, if there are some in stock, the 'cost of their existing stock' includes pennies instead of items marked way way up.

IMHO, the fault lies on the stores themselves. If they know penny items cant be sold and shouldnt be on the shelves, then they should make it a priority to ensure they dont have any. Most of the penny items Ive gotten look like they were stored somewhere for a very long time, then someone unknowingly "cleaned up" and put them out on the shelf. Had they checked the price they would have known NOT to do that.

I think the days of these deals are numbered anyway....all of my local stores have cleaned up their overhead storage lately, so it would be easier for them to pick off stuff that looks like its been there forever. HOPEFULLY this is just a "spring cleanup" and it gets a mess again soon enough, but remembering back to last year around this time, the stores were a whole lot messier and disorganized.

Things go missing in stores and things get stolen. So when they discontinue a product whether, it be just that revision or the entire type, they reduce the price to a penny so when they see a dollar amount on the actual quantity of goods in a store it is more accurate.

So in layman's its to make inventory worth more accurate for the corporate office. It also has the added benefit that if they want to bring an item back they just have to change the price.

Penny. Also got a 10 pack of T12's for a penny. Dropped them off at my dad's.

I was told they're not allowed to make T12's anymore and soon T8's are going too, something to do with this administration and the whole CFL curly que light deal. Had this conversation with another customer who works for some light company

Plenty of these levels in NY, all full price.

Hooksett and Manchester for HD, Sears in Manchester, and Lowes in Concord.

Nothing good, just 2 boxes of penny bulbs. Manchester had 2 more of those 30 packs but I didn't take them

I am all about saving on my electric bill. I switched all to LED, what a difference. Got some LED Cree bulbs 60 watts for $2 in change while they were onsale. I replaced my T8 with LED bulbs. I did pick up a box of these for my job.

Only picked up one pouch for $1.53 and a penny LED bulb that I really have no use for haha.

Slim pickings other than that. South Portland Me store has 3 of the 3/4 openers on top shelf, none on floor.

Riverside has two of the Kohler toilet seats that would very likely be a penny. Don't need them...

The .75HP opener was 62.02....Im used to .03 prices.

Will it go to a .03 price from 62.02? Keeping the receipt just in case they drop again, but 62.02 seems to be a 75%-ish off price.

No, the openers are on the **.04 -> **.02 markdown schedule so typically it will go to a penny next, although not guaranteed. This is similar to the **.06 -> **.03 -> $0.01 markdown schedule.
