I actually did the return/rebuy and was honest about it "price is cheaper now, Im still within 30 days"

One store said absolutely not. Another store said no problem...didnt even bring the item in, just the receipt.

I would say that is way different than return/rebuy from a store not on clearance to one that is.

I would be fine with getting a price adjustment on something I bought at .06 a week ago that now dropped to .03.

Like this I would get an adjustment on since I bought at 25 a month ago, but I lost my receipt...

Do you have an email copy of the receipt? It has saved my *** a few times. Or if you paid by credit card, they should be able to look it up if you have the card.

I went to my local HD this morning, looked up Echo. Refine my search and it said (6) clearance. Then it only shows 2 items. Anyone seen this before? As for return/re-buy will try it later. $300 difference. Last time I talked to a cashier, she said she will do it with no problem.

I've had this happen to me multiple times as well. Not sure why it does that. Never used to do that before. Have had it happen a handful of times over the past 3-4 weeks.

I noticed that on the Echo stuff as well. Not sure if it happens with the other stuff as well as I don't count to see if they match. It was just obvious with the Echo since there were only a few items on clearance.

Thanks for keeping this updated as well as the spread sheet. I don't live near a depot but I knew I would be passing a few by earlier this week. I spent a hour at each store looking around, searching on the computer and getting familiar with the store layouts. I struck out.
I was passing near the local to me store (Racine WI.) and stopped in. I had a list of highlighted items from the spread sheet I actually could use. I included a few random items I felt could be flipped If I ran into and a list of key search words to use on the computer. I walked in, checked inventory on the computer and then set off on my search. I scored two hot water heaters (479071) right away @ $49.03. They had a location listed and they were there. Wow this is easy right! I spent the next 40 minutes or so digging the garden center, end caps, corners of stores and anywhere else I thought I may strike gold. I decided to move on. This store had very little or no inventory of any of the great deals listed and many were showing full price on the computer.
In my search a few days prior in northern IL I had noted a few of the items at other close by stores. Not knowing the prices I figured next time by I would check it out. I was next in the area of Vernon Hills IL. I noted the Echo Blower 844292 was in stock. I went in and checked stock. Score! In stock, location noted and at the $80.03 price. I could use this and at this price its a no brainer. I went to the shelf and could see the blower item # about 3 levels up behind all the newer models. I grabbed a employee who looked very unexcited to be there and asked for assistance, a few minutes later had it in my cart. WooHoo!
While at the Vernon Hills store I noted a few Husky tool storage items at .01, no location given. I went to the tool aisle and didn't find a thing. Hit all the end caps, hiding areas etc. I went to the corner storage area and there was a employee there. I asked for assistance to find the items, while trying to peek inside the employee area. I struck out. I even thought I found them on the top shelf behind the cage area in the tool area, the employee grabbed a stairway and checked, no luck. I showed them the items on my phone using the depot number and showing full price to not set off any alarms.
The items I found using the store computer @ .01 were:
8 in / 20 in tote combo / 582850 / showed 3 on hand.
12in tool wall, red / 1001014810 / showed 14 on hand
I thought they would be great filler items / stocking stuffers for a few this coming holiday season.
Still on the search for the Bostitch nailer 377457, for sub $100. If anyone in northern IL, SE WI can point me to one I will buy lunch!
One question I had was how do you change location search, or look farther out when in the price check search function on the store computer? In Gurnee, IL about 12 miles from the WI state line I was seeing store inventory about 50 miles away in IL, nothing in WI although there are stores in WI closer. I used the instructions to search and it went great other than that.
Thanks for your leads fellow Journal deal chasers and happy hunting!

For all of you who have found the clearance chainsaws, did they actually have the yellow markdown stickers?

There really is no good way of checking nearby inventory. The numbers that show up on the side of the screen on the price check app are hardly accurate. Without going to the actual store you want to check, it's really nothing more than something that will get your hopes up only to have them crushed when you get to the other store and discover it was wrong.

Even worse, you have no idea what the prices are at the other stores.

You should be commended for putting in the time and effort needed to scoring deals. As you found out, it's almost never as easy as simply walking into a store without having done any prior research, and walking out with a penny item. Kudos to you! I hope others use this as an example.

Cant you just change the store number in the url after you click the price check tool? There is a spot for it i think.

Pretty sure you need to be connected to that stores network in order for it to work. For example, you can't pull that up from your home computer by just inputting the store number you want to check.

Yeah, its going to be an internal only DNS reference. The interesting thing to see would be if its an internal reference to an EXTERNAL server, but I highly doubt it.

I figure all the HD stores communicate with a server in-store or a server outside of the store via a secure VPN (especially after their data breach)

But... If all the HDs are connected via an intranet or extranet they could easily communicate with each other and not the outside internet, depends on how the have it set up.

This is way above my knowledge of interwebs...

It would be nice to check prices from home though...

True. Next time I look at one of the PCs Ill note the server.

I have a feeling they are all communicating back to multiple servers outside the stores and it might even be a load balanced thing, so st1112 might be used from anywhere in the US depending on load of others.

I dont think st1112 is unique to your store, st1234 is unique to mine, etc.

It isn't possible to check prices of other stores, not even the employees have access to other stores pricing without calling. And I mean employees who actually have a clue.

I'm guessing each store may have it's own DB server, which would allow them to still operate if there was an outage in their WAN.

But looking at the URL, it appears you could inject another stores number and get results from that store. HOWEVER, your results may be coming from the DB from the store you're in (hence the inventory discrepancies). I think it could work for checking prices of other stores, but probably won't do much in terms of inventory.

It's certainly worth testing... All the above is speculation without knowing HD's infrastructure.

I knew of the "store number" in the link, but never thought to see what would pop up if you change it. It's usually hard enough to get it to work for the store you are in, never mind a different store...

Now I have never paid enough attention to the different URLs. Another thing to try would be to use another stores URL at a different store and see what that does. Likely nothing.

Agreed. These servers are on a intranet. They are logged on to a a domain.

Admin account is amber.. couldn't verify NIC info because its locked down on pc.

Didn't take pixs, but the last few weeks they have been getting rid of track lighting tracks, fixtures and so on. They had them on sale. I thought I had posted this, but after looking back I never did.

Most of the lights I have seen on clearance are hideous. Not sure about your area though.

I wonder what the brand or sku# to look for when searching for the pressure washer

I don't mean to be an a$$ but seriously... how did you read through here enough to find mentions of a pressure washer without seeing anything at all that would help you search.

A search of "pressure washer" alone would yield what you are looking for.
