I may have found away to check inventory on some items online that show as clearance in the app. I want to test it out some more to make sure it works on most of the stuff though. It seems to reflect the inventory shown on the app for the store your searching but it lists the retail price. It worked for showing what stores still listed the M12 kits in stock but its time consuming since you have to change the zip codes and its not from homedepot.com or the stores computer. Every store I visited showed either limited stock being under 3 or in stock showing 4 or more on hand while searching online.

How ever when I went to those stores, while the in store app showed them as being on hand, none could be found except for the store in SC I hit last week. I tried calling HD customer support for the first time to see if I could get one of the kits shipped to me since I visited so many stores looking for one. Each store went to showed them as being in inventory but customer service pretty much said its clearance and there are none in my district even though the store I was just in showed 2 on hand. I guess customer service only helps when you have the product in hand and the manager challenges the pricing.

How are you guys getting people to check top stock for stuff like that though? 4 different stores all showing at least 2 kits each, some as many as 10 and none wanted to check the top shelf and they seem to get pissed when I ask to do it my self.

Anyone have an idea what the next price will be if the Milwaukee kits drop from 25?

Because that's where they're hiding them. They don't want you to find them

I could understand if it was some employees but hell It was the asm in two of the stores, both shrugged it off as loss to theft yet didn't want to bother having some one check the damn shelf for a $25 item when two cases of them are missing from their stock. I don't understand that. Plus the CSR rep contacted the district manager who claimed none in stock in the NE district when asked about them. We all know that's ********. I think they just have one of, if not the shittiest inventory systems of any box store I've been to. And a ton of lazy *** employees.

I believe these are the $1 saw blades from the summer. Store I was in showed zero stock, but surrounding stores showed inventory.

I don't remember them having the tip like that but the picture could be wrong also.

OK, had a good day today. On my way home this afternoon decided to hit two of my local stores in the MD/DC/VA area just to see what I might find. Didn't have alot of time, so just planned to conduct a cursory check of the garden area - generator, blower, chainsaw, etc., the tool area - tool boxes, tool bags, etc., and the clearance area.

Walked into the first store and went to the garden area. Hadn't been in the area a minute of two when I looked over at the display blowers and low and behold sat a brand new PB-500T blower sitting where a PB-580T had been sitting (in fact someone pushed the PB-580T back on the shelf so that they could put the 500T in its place). Nearly wet myself when I saw it there in all its glory with its tags, and a price sticker (see picture) attached to it with the SKU and a price of $319.99. Quickly put it in my cart and started towards the SCO. Before I could get out of the Garden Area, an employee called out to me and asked if I needed any help. Told him no I was good to go. Asked if I wanted to get one of the blowers in a box (the 580T). Told him no, that I had the model I wanted. Asked why I wanted the display - told him it was an older model which I had been looking for and left with a smile on my face.

Smile quickly disipated when I got to the SCO. Scanned the sku and it reflected the price as a penny. Added the item to my transaction and it went straight to the SEE ATTENDANT screen. Of course Attendant told me that the penny price was incorrect and she tried rescanning - it came up a penny, she tried putting inputting the SKU into her computer - it came up a penny, and that when she determined that something was wrong and I could not purchase same. Remained calm, told her that I had heard something about the Company Policy being if I find it and it scans for a penny, I get it for that price. She told me I was wrong and called over the head cashier. Head Cashier started her speech - it is not a penny, can't sell it at that price, have to pay the last clearance price. Asked her to call the manager. She calls someone in the Garden Area (the guy who was so helpful to me earlier). He tells me that he can not selll it to me for a penny and offers to sell it for the reduced price of $279. I tell thanks, but I would rather speak with a manager. Finally the Head Cashier calls for a manager, but it seems that he is too busy to respond. Garden guy comes back with a piece of paper showing a picture of the PB-500T and a price of $199. Head Cashier tells me that is the best price I am going to get. Tell her once again to call the manager or if necessary I will contact Corporate and seek their assistance. After approximately 15 minutes from when I first interacted with the Attendant, the Garden Guy comes back to the front and tells me his manager told him to tell me Merry Christmas as the blower is now mine free of cost. He further tells me that at that price I am unable to return the blower if it does not function - I acknowledge same and tell him I understand I get what I am paying for. Put the blower in the back of my car and decide to head home instead of going to the second store I had originally planned to go to.

As I am going home I decide to take a chance and go to the second store. Walked into the Garden Area and again find the deal of the day. I pick up a Ryobi Electric Looper (reg $99 - last clearance price I have seen in my area is $49.06) and go to the SCO to check the price. Might not have checked the box, but found it in the middle of the aisle, and the box looked a little worn. Tried to scan it at the SCO, but due to the shape of the box and the location of the SKU I had trouble. Before you could bat an eyelash the Attendant comes over with her scanner. She scans the box and it show the price as a penny. She doesn't seem to know what to do so she tried to call someone in the Garden Center. No response. After a few minutes she tries the store manager. Store manager tells her that she can not sell it for a penny, but would sell it to me for $5. She hangs up on him and tells me his response. I tell her that I am not spending $5. I tell her that if he is not willing to come out and talk that I will pay him a penny or he can give it to me. She calls him and tells him my ultimatium. There is no fight, no arguement, he says to sell it to me for a penny. I pay and walk.

Went to a third store on my way home to see if I can duplicate the Ryobi price - no deal, still $49.86 at the store - they have 3 of them. So all in all it was a good day.

As for the blower, it appears that I have all of the parts - the only thing I don't have is the manual and the engine oil (approx $2.50 and I have already found the manual on line). Hopefully the pipes I found adjacent to the blower will work. Not sure if they were for the 500T or the 580T. If any one knows, please feel free to comment. Thanks.

BTW - Know where a PB-500H blower is sitting. Wasn't sure if it was one of the units being clearance but have since seen where another GB member picked one up for a penny. Will be going to the store to see if I can snag it (son would love it), but I already know that that store does not readily sell penny items.

I could understand if it was some employees but hell It was the asm in two of the stores...
Home Depot general managers are cut from the same cloth as Lowes general managers.

Don't be surprised when experience shows you that the level of corruption among store employees goes all the way to the store's general manager. I went into one of the Chicago stores and used the customer kiosk to search for active-SKU clearance items. Someone came along and stood behind me, watching my every page view on the computer as I wrote down SKUs, instock quantities, and aisle locations. Then I went through the store looking for inventory.

It took me a while, but I found a large number of items that I was looking for at 03 prices, all of which were shrink-wrapped in non-salable areas as top-stock -- even though they were being clearanced and the prices were being slashed from 00 to 06 to 03 levels. It was obvious that in this store, select high-value items were being left to rot in the rafters through the depreciation cycle until they were fully depreciated from the books and could be disposed of without recordkeeping.

Several times I had associates ask if they could help me, and when I gave them an SKU and a location for an item that was at 03 clearance pricing, they told me that they were instructed by the GM to tell me that they won't pull *ANY* merchandise for me out of top stock.

I asked to speak to the manager, who had been running that store for the past 10 years. He flatly refused to sell me any item that was in top-stock, regardless of it's price. He accused me of working at another HD store (because I knew too much) and refused to help me, and he called me a penny thief. I explained that I wasn't looking for penny items, just for other active-SKU merchandise that was "on-sale". He didn't care. He refused to sell me anything. It was already closing time on Friday night, so I had to wait to call 800 C/S.

The next morning I returned to the store when it opened at 7 am and every SKU that I had asked for had vanished between closing time Friday and opening time Saturday. Of course, I had in-store inventory counts, and time of last sale data from the computer, from both before he swiped the merchandise and afterward. I gave that to Corporate to show that he was refusing to sell merchandise to customers and that he was emptying the clearance merchandise from the store after-hours.

That manager has been intentionally mis-allocating clearance inventory throughout his 10 year tenure, and he made a career of it. There's lots of money to be made by manipulating several million dollars worth of merchandise in a Home Depot store. Don't assume that it's always the tool guy who is responsible.

Glad you had better luck than I did with the display blower.

patience... in my case it took a couple of seasons but it finally happened.

Will keep watching, but Ill need a new grill in the next year most likely. Finally got a natural gas line to our house and the burners on my current propane grill are basically shot.

The Webers look nice but the 330 is too small (crazy, I know, but we grill so much food and so often we can actually justify a larger model). I thought I saw the 420 go on clearance at one point but its not currently.

What happens if an item is on clearance at store A which has none in stock. You buy one at the non clearance price at store B. You return the item at store A. Will the item be on available at the clearance price at store A now?

Never looked at it that way, I guess I should search a bit more just to see what I can find and stand my ground if I can ever find the damn things in the store. not really one to argue in a store but hell if that's what is happening screw that.. I was just looking for power tools to replace my older sets. I saw a dewalt drill/driver combo kit for 36.00 on Monday when I was at one store but no stores local to me showed stock, and no other stores have shown it since then when I checked the app at them. I'll get the sku next time I visit that one and make sure to post it. I didn't see it listed in the thread and don't remember if it was on the list.

These are a great deal. I put four of them (4 windows, 12 blocks each) in my basement. My wife was skeptical, but very happy with the result. $100 per window delivered from HD.com

There was a seller on Ebay that would make custom sized glass block windows and could add things like a vent panel, dryer vent outlet, etc. I had them build me a basement window with my specs.

But I have another one that needs to be done and doesnt need anything but block. The glass blocks work well if you want to never open the window and they insulate well too.

You could attempt to ask for a price adjustment, but its kinda an ethical boundary....since you know you are doing it on purpose.

As far as if you actually RETURNED the product to the store that had clearance price....my guess is someone would catch on and buy it for themselves long before it hits the sales floor!

If something had a .06 price effective 10/2.. When would think the .03 price would hit

Typically it would stay at the .06 level for six weeks...but that is just coming from a local HD manager that didn't know he had to sell penny items. He's a nice guy though.

Those pipes are from the 580 if one of them has the metal ring on the end.

I happened on the only PB500 I've ever seen and it was a display. It was missing, air filter, spark plug, filter cover, gas cover, tubes, everything. The carb was still on so that was good. No sku or label attached so no way to ring it up on sco.

Talked to two mgrs in the area, showed them it was the old model and offered to buy it. They looked baffled for 5 seconds and said lets see what the last price was. 80.03 I thought. She said she could do that price. I was going to ask for 50% off since everything was gone but didn't want to deal with the hassle with Echo. So we walked back over and I unboxed the 580 to put on the shelve and said hey is it ok if I take what is missing off this one and put it one mine. Said I looked for the box for it but couldn't find it. She said we just throw all those away and said sure. So she watched me molest the 580 and rip everything off. I don't even know if the filter cover and filter fit the 500. I hope they do. Don't know if the pipes fit either but they have that metal ring attached to the pipe with Echo on it. The old 500 model did not have that ring. At least the pipes I saw in a 500 box weeks ago.

I had the sku but I'm sure when I said here is the sku and it rang a penny it would be no good. HD backs up stores for not selling display models.

It went .06 status on 10/2.. Thinking any day now

I give up guessing on certain items. Plumbing stuff seems to never drop and I have scanned a lot of 2014 dated stuff that shows msrp prices or still the marked price.

Seems odd the milwaukee reaming pliers in 8" and 12" are a penny but the 10" are still at 13.98

Just want to remind everyone not to bother calling corporate on "not found" items that dropped off the inventory.

Found a 2 tool Dewalt cordless combo kit in Nashua today. Handwritten on it "inactive 4/22". Came up not found. Website shows $179. Manager wouldn't go lower than $125. Corporate won't do anything if it comes up not found because they're not supposed to sell it. Did score a cordless 10" Ryobi chainsaw, scanned a penny but the manager wanted me to use some clearance SKU for $1.28... Fine with me. Corporate also sent me a $25 gift card. 4 people at the store asked if I work at Home Depot lol.

So, as far as "not found" items go, it's the manager's discretion. I've had managers say "merry Christmas" and I've had some dicks that wouldn't sell at all, and I've HD some that want to sell at reduced prices.
