Got my first penny deals tonight, and also got denied on my first penny deal.

Found 3 pairs of Milwaukee pliers out on the end of a rack, with a tag above them priced at $18.06 dated in August. All three were a penny. This was in the West Roxbury, MA store.

Found a PB500T at the Watertown store, looked mostly complete. Couldn't find the box anywhere, so I brought it to self checkout. First guy called over the supervisor, she went and got a dummy SKU for $319 and wouldn't let it go cheaper than that. Should've got a manager involved I guess, but it would've been a tough argument given that it was a display.

Go back now and tell them you'll pay last clearance price of 80.03

Ask for a Mgr first. Shown them it is not the current model being sold and needs to be removed from display.

Just want to remind everyone not to bother calling corporate on "not found" items that dropped off the inventory.

Found a 2 tool Dewalt cordless combo kit in Nashua today. Handwritten on it "inactive 4/22". Came up not found. Website shows $179. Manager wouldn't go lower than $125. Corporate won't do anything if it comes up not found because they're not supposed to sell it. Did score a cordless 10" Ryobi chainsaw, scanned a penny but the manager wanted me to use some clearance SKU for $1.28... Fine with me. Corporate also sent me a $25 gift card. 4 people at the store asked if I work at Home Depot lol.

So, as far as "not found" items go, it's the manager's discretion. I've had managers say "merry Christmas" and I've had some dicks that wouldn't sell at all, and I've HD some that want to sell at reduced prices.

Folks,

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water....... (this would be a lot more dramatic if we could install a music loop of the Theme from Jaws) .

Just to echo the comments made by SPN and Kneeman, I have had differing responses to my attempts to purchase "inactive items" - sometimes I score, most times not (they either refuse to sell the item or mark it back to original price). Today however was the exception.

Went to a VA store on the way home (needed to stop at a Sears store across the street from HD to pick up a 12 Ton Bottle Jack and a small strap wrench I got free with my ShopYourWay points - both for less than $23 in points) and did a cursory check of the outside garden area - looking for a blowers, generators, etc that has been listed on GB - none outside or inside the store. However, sitting in plain site about 7 feet high was three of the 4 Gallon Flowmaster Sprayer that someone noted that they were able to get 11 of the other day (still had the 4/9 Event stickers on them). Grabbed the yellow ladder that was posted nearby and reached up and got them down. Went directly to the SCO to scan them to find out the current price. Unfortunately, with each scan I got the infamous "No Information Found" screen. Attendant seemed to be dumbfounded and tried scanning each of the items, inputted the SKU numbers in her computer and just about did a rain dance to try and figure out what I should pay for same. Luckily she called over the Head Cashier who made a quick call to the Manager on Duty (MOD). She had a short conversation with him, telling him that they were older sprayers, would not scan, and had no other identifying info on them. She hung up on him, turned to me and smiled and told me to "run". I looked at her, smiled back and asked if I should run with the sprayers as well to which she responded in the afffirmative. I thanked her as I quickly left, told her I would be back shortly as I still needed to complete my shopping and thanked her profusely.

The three sprayers I received today brings my total number up to 15 sprayers - gave quite a few away to friends and family - waiting to have a squirt gun fight next summer, and kept a couple for myself (one for water, one for insecticide, one for fertilizer - all marked accordingly).

Love finding the penny deals - or in this case the free deals (makes it easy to give a lot of things away to family/friends when the out of pocket expense is in the cents vice dollars). In the last two days, I have found merchandise previously valued at approximately $630 for a penny (Echo Blower, Ryobi Electric Looper, and the above sprayers). Thanks to those of you who continue to post the deals that you find - someday I hope to beat you to the punch and find that one item that will rate me a "you ****".

I found a Rubbermaid 90 gallon deck box yesterday for $32, the yellow tag showed $75. Definitely had been there a while, but I needed it so I picked it up. It was all tan in color, the newer ones are olive. Sorry, I don't have the sku handy at the moment.

So do the sprayers go bad leaving product in them? The instructions always say don't do it and rinse them after use.

As for items not found it is better to try and check out with them and have the cashiers call the Mgr than walking over to customer service and asking them for the Mgr to see about items not found that you have in hand.

All the not found stuff I've found has been junk anyhow.

Would you drink a skunked beer? No but you might give it to your best bud.

Would you spray moldy sludge on your tomato plants? No, but maybe on your neighbor's rhododendron.

I would assume it depends on what's in it. I can't imagine water causing it any harm, as long as it doesn't start to grow mold

I don't think so, but I routinely empty and rinse each sprayer after I use same. I marked them as to the product used to avoid contaimination or possible poisoning in the case of insecticide.

You ****. Nice score on the sprayers

Thanks, that means a lot from a guy who has made enough scores to open his own Lowes and/or Home Depot outlet. I only wish that I had the luck and/or determination you have to find the bargains you have in the past - of course than I would have another problem that is rarely mentioned here - storage space and the wife's complaints..........

found a penny toro blower/vac one.... display model with clearance sticker of $135..... csr rang it up by sku...it came up penny... And she and head cashier start manually entering different sku ## and yellow sticker price of $135... She saids no way for penny deal... I told her its illegal to input different ## and price manually...that she should scan the barcode or enter correct sku which showed up penny item...
they got dept manager and he quickly settled the situation after I told him... that its illegal to CSR to input different sku ## and price then what the scanner rang up at...

He was very cool and knew all about it...said take it and that it was the last item he had... seemed he knew how to do penny deal situation...No receipt...told me just take it... He settled it in 2-3 mins...while these csr/head cashier were raising a storm earlier...

unlike last time at different store....which took about 30-45mins...this time it took me less then 5-9mins...and most of it was the **** that the csr/head cashier raising up a storm....they even protested even after the manager told me to go ahead and take it.... they told him....are you sure and why is he doing that???

Something similar just happened to me at near closing. Found a 500t blower, took it to self check out and the cashier said price is wrong. Entered it manually, same deal. Didn't say one word the whole time as I knew it'd be a waste of breath. She called another cashier over. She called the manager and I guess he told her to bring up the last clearance price of $8x.00. She said you want it? I said nope, not at that price. I asked if that was the manager I'd like to speak to him. He came over and basically I broke it down and was like look. .I know you're going to tell me you cant sell it for a penny and I understand that because that'll show up at corporate and they'll get at you for that. I'd you don't want to sell it to me for a penny, I'll call corporate and they'll find out anyway. So usually managers either just let it go for free or take the hit for the penny. He looked at the machine and said. .I'll take off $20. I said no, it's not even complete (missing tubes) and by the time I can get it running I'll be down more than $20. He said...how's $20 total sound? I said great I'll take it.

Now, the whole time I was calm and like hey, I don't want corporate to find out but if I have to I will call. Of course I was bluffing. I wouldn't have called corporate because we know that at $8x.** Echo would send me the parts free. Plus, even at that price its a great deal. And the less calls they get about penny deals, the better. I'd hate for them to get rid of that policy.
Usually I'd wait to hear them go on and on with their explanation so this time I decided to do the talking and it went well. Basically looked like the manager was thinking: damn, this guy knows how this works..

Anywho. .maybe that approach might help others :dunno: Good luck!

Found a case of these today back behind the clearance tools. Rang up not found. Tool manager said he had to send them back but since I found them, I could have one for the price of a 16 oz. (1/2 price).

Based on my experience last week, corporate would have done nothing for you on an incomplete display anyway (two people told me same thing). Store discretion on whether or not they want to sell it. At Least that manager realized it was better to get some money out of it rather than just have it sit on the shelf.

As others have mentioned, the penny policy applies to items on the selling floor only. Technically, anything we grab from the overheads using any form of ladder, a manager could make the argument that they were "waiting to send it back" and I think corporate would back them.

I have been through this before and corporate will DEFINITELY back them. The manager will lie through her teeth and swear you got it from an "unauthorized area". Your best bet if asked where you got an item is to tell them it was laying on a shelf somewhere and you picked it up.

Lucky you guys find displays with a tag on it that has the sku. Every old display item I have found has had no sku and the bar tag on the shelve was the updated new version so it was no help.

You got lucky getting that for 20.00 now you gotta get lucky getting parts from Echo.

Same here...I found one store with an "old" display of the Echo blower, but all the stock (and the shelf price tag) were for the new one, $299

Didnt even bother trying to get the display for clearance price.

As far as missing parts, youd probably be well ahead of the game even if you had to buy them yourself from eReplacementParts, etc.

Woke up this morning to check a local deal to see if the .06 dropped to .03.. Today would of been 6 weeks exact since the last price change, but no dice. I wonder if they update prices weekly or daily.

Prices in my local area seem to update on Tuesdays. Sometimes Thursday too, but mainly on Tuesday.

I can tell you that those were never on clearance nation wide. I grabbed some at 3 different stores her in south Florida with the same pink April black Friday event they all scanned up at full price. I guess since it doesn't snow down here and lawn business owners work year round they have no need to clearance them out :(.

Congrats on your score :rocker:

Oh I know. But I tried to make it seem like he had no choice. Of course he could've easily said no. It was next to all the other blowers so no ladder used.

Yup I'm just going to buy them. All I'd need are two tubes. It has that elbow one and the flexible one to direct the air. It'll probably end up coming up to about $50 to make it complete.

I am confused here. The Ashfield faucet can still be purchased online, but has been clearanced in all stores. If you find one in store, it will be a penny.

Are you saying you want to buy one online for $149, then return/rebuy in store?
