I search by both brands and categories..
Dewalt, Ridgid, Porter Cable, Makita, Milwaukee, Bostitch, Echo, Husky, Toro, Ryobi, Skil, Bosch, etc
pressure washer, generator, etc

If it doesn't fall in my normal searches, I probably wouldn't find it. I usually only pay attention to tools and outdoor power equipment.

06GMC5.3L catches all of the stuff that I miss, such as electrical/lighting and faucets.

Do the penny items show on the app when you filter by clearance items?

99% of the time, no. It will show up as "Item not found." That's your clue of it being a penny item. There are those rare occasions where it'll actually show up on there as $.01. That's super rare though. But as you watch an item drop lower and lower, then "item not found," It's almost a given that its penny status.

Also, it won't just pop up anymore. You have to punch in the sku to bring it up.

I found one of the 29 piece Milwaukee thunderbolt drill bit sets in Concord (this is before I found the 5 in Tilton). It was on the clearance rack, damaged, missing 3 bits, with a "This Item Only" price reduced sticker, "Was $59, now $35, save 35%".
It was missing oddball sizes.. 13/64, 17/64, and 29/64.. I found all 3 (the 2 smaller Milwaukee thunderbolts for $1 each, and the 29/64 I found a Dewalt for $3).

Anyway, I bring this mangled thing to SCO and scan it, comes up $25, then ask about getting the 35% off. The SCO lady calls this head cashier lady over and starts giving me **** because it's supposed to be $35 and i'm already getting a discount because it rings up at $25. I literally yelled at her saying "why the **** would I pay $35 for this beat up **** with missing bits when they sell new for $25". After about 10 minutes of her running back and forth to customer service desk to verify it, she comes back and says I can have it for $15. Thank you.

So, completed the set for $20 (with one bit being a Dewalt).

Found a penny 4 gal water heater, but beware that it may require the cashier to press the 'decline warranty' button on her machine. It is more likely that penny items will be spotted before the transaction completes.

Usually it shows up on the SCO screen and you can click no. I was fine with the garage door openers and such.

Found an old aluminum extendable pole use for cleaning the pole and such. The clearance tag was $5 from 2013. When the lady at the SCO punched in the sku it came up as not found. I bought the rest of my stuff at the SCO and then went down to customer service to try to the pole. The manager from the outdoor was called and said its $23... I told them its not the same one (different sku) and he would give it to me for $5 I said you and I both know its penneyd out so Ill take it off your hands. He said nawww Ill throw it away. I took my cart and started walking out and he stops me to ask for my receipt and see's 17 items at .01 and asks to have my receipt and I said no thank you and walked out. Maybe giving me the pool pole wasn't such a bad idea after all:lol_hitti

These are the bags if your interested. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-HDX-Leaf-Vacuum-Bag-68822/204667801

This is actually a scenario where the cashier is prompted to collect warranty info, and there is nothing you can do at the self checkout terminal.

Like 06 said, it's a smart irrigation control. They go for $180 on eBay. All of my local Tulsa, OK stores carried them, but they caught them when the went penny status.
Only 8922 went to a Penny. 3903, 3904, 3913, 3915 all show inactive... (full price). 3903 and 3915 still have QTY 5 each on hand though.

I'm not even trying to score penny items. (although I wouldn't pass them up either!) I'm happy with the **.03 deals if it's something I will use.

Been searching and waiting for a chainsaw and a backpack blower, but whenever I find em they are full price around here.

This past weekend I found a couple pairs of the Makita Pro Contractors Gloves that were originally $19.97. (I don't ever pay that much for gloves!!) They were marked $10.06 with a sticker date of September. Took them to SCO and they rang up $5.03. They are really nice gloves and well worth 5 bucks a pair.

Just a thought, if anybody has a PB500H blower that they bought for a penny, I'd be happy to pay you the last clearance price of $80.03. Just PM me. I know it's worth more, so I don't expect any takers but my elbow is killing me from my damn handheld. Just throwing it out there. Would do the same for a chainsaw too.

Probably buying them from Genco, you can buy pallets at a time of Home Depot returned stuff.

Thanks for opening up that floodgate. Another website I will now spend hours on. ;)

Has anyone ordered any of these pallets from Genco? Wonder what the condition is of the items. Most of the returned stuff I see at HD on the clearance shelf is beat to ****.

Went on a hunt at a store 20 min away that I don't get to too often. Only found 3 more garage epoxy kits. No new clearance that hasn't already been mentioned.

Went to 3 stores and 2 stores had 4 of the 4gal heaters. Passed it up as I didn't need them that bad and didn't feel like arguing with managers and drama involved. Went to store showing 4 pressure washers in Stock. Guess, nowhere to be be found. But did find 4 newer washers that are normal ones, not clearance ones.

Should mostly be comprised of dot.com returns. Many of the store-returns are often put right back on the shelf with a "reduced" green tag.

Almost all junk. I know people that have bought pallets if lights and tools. They paid 5k and lost money.

There's a place in Dallas that does the pallets of HD returns (can't recall the name). There's a few people that always have stuff they've gotten from there listing it on CL offerup, etc. Mostly decent prices, but never has been enough to entice me.

Would that be C&L Warehouse? In the Grand Perrie Warehouse district.

Any opinions on the transparent yellow case of Dewalt ratchet/socket sets for $34? They look tempting, but I'll probably still hold off to get one at least at the .06 level

I know a few of you picked up this 10x8 shed. How is it? Think it would hold up to Maine winters? One review says he has had good luck in Maine but that's all I found.

For anyone who's taken the bar/chain off their Echo CS-330T, is there a secret to getting this bar cover back on? This friggin brake band just doesn't want to go over the pulley. Tension is all the way off.

Those arrow sheds are a pain to assemble. There are a ton of screws and the metal is very thin. I bought a couple in the spring for $79. Barely worth it. Took forever to put together also.

How much luck do you guys have buying stuff that past the penny point? Both times I've found something they make up some BS why I can't have it and have to throw it out or return to the manufacturer..

There is a guy in the Atlanta area that buys by the tractor load. He gets some stuff brand new in the box, some stuff lightly used, and some that is garbage. He sells at about 45% of retail. Not penny deals, but great prices if you need the item.

I read this in the reviews as well, but overall they said if you read all the instructions well and take your time etc it wasn't too bad. I might give it a shot if I can get one for cheap.

Depends on the cashier/manager. Some will say merry Christmas while others will say they need to send it back while others will try and find the item on HD.com and sell it for that. It's hit or miss.

Local store has those two lights in quantities of like 70 for each style.
