I found one of the 29 piece Milwaukee thunderbolt drill bit sets in Concord (this is before I found the 5 in Tilton). It was on the clearance rack, damaged, missing 3 bits, with a "This Item Only" price reduced sticker, "Was $59, now $35, save 35%".
It was missing oddball sizes.. 13/64, 17/64, and 29/64.. I found all 3 (the 2 smaller Milwaukee thunderbolts for $1 each, and the 29/64 I found a Dewalt for $3).

Anyway, I bring this mangled thing to SCO and scan it, comes up $25, then ask about getting the 35% off. The SCO lady calls this head cashier lady over and starts giving me **** because it's supposed to be $35 and i'm already getting a discount because it rings up at $25. I literally yelled at her saying "why the **** would I pay $35 for this beat up **** with missing bits when they sell new for $25". After about 10 minutes of her running back and forth to customer service desk to verify it, she comes back and says I can have it for $15. Thank you.

So, completed the set for $20 (with one bit being a Dewalt).

still $40 around here.

Saw the Bosch miter stand on clearance at HD at a local store last weekend. Forgot to take a picture of it. Still early stages but something to keep an eye out for. I will grab more info next time I go.

Stopped by local hd yesterday picked up these sockets for.01 each since the sku wasn't in the system anymore on price check. And these cable cuffs were only .01 today. I went bacl to grab the 3 other sets of sockets today for co workers and the entire display was removed.

I bet they cought on or something. But the past markdown was back in August this year.

All of those were gone before getting to a penny around here.

Was that the rolling, gravity rise stand (SKU#1000399033) that normally goes for $299? Been looking for a rolling miter saw stand at a good price forever with not luck. My 12 inch MS is too heavy to be lugging around.

I honestly didn't look into it too much. It was the only Bosch stand they had. I plan on getting more info next time I am there.

In looking at HD.com, I believe that is the one though yes.

There is a guy in the Atlanta area that buys by the tractor load. He gets some stuff brand new in the box, some stuff lightly used, and some that is garbage. He sells at about 45% of retail. Not penny deals, but great prices if you need the item.

Does he have a store front?

There used to be a salvage place on PIB inside 285 that sold Costco/Sams/Home Depot returns. I used to speak with the owner all the time and he said that once companies started auctioning off "pallets" on the web, it drove up the prices to the point he could not buy the stuff and make money. Within a year, he closed shop. In it's heyday, he was making a killing until his sources dried up. I would shop at Costco and then make a trip to his store, finding Costco items selling for 30% retail. Plus he had all types of industrial supplies for great bargains, mostly Grainger/McMaster inventory.

warning using credit card at CSO

I had this issue at the store which I described in details a couple weeks back. The issue was with me trying to purchase a penny item (blower) at self checkout. The "see attendant" message came up and I was't able to purchase that item and walked out with nothing. (store created "reconditioned" hand-written sku and corporate didn't help)

Now, the problem that followed...
Apparently the SCO cashier got rid of the "see attendant" message, but didn't cancel the whole transaction and my credit card was used for the next purchase made by the next person in line. the total was just under $50, so the signature wasn't required. When I called HD (conference call with store and corporate) I asked them to check their videos to see I walked out with nothing, they told me they are not going to do that and if I want I can contact my credit card and put the charge in dispute. Credit card put this charge in dispute twice and then reversed them both times saying HD has a proof that something was purchased. I'm pretty sure I'll make my credit card eat this amount, but I spent hours on the phone with them and HD already over this issue and I really want to get compensated. Any idea who I should contact next? I see some guys easily get $100 or $200 gift card from HD (or lowes? or both? :)), I think I deserve at least the same :)

thanks

Why did you swipe your card before you got to the payment screen?

The cashier entered the SKU I gave her and the amount showed up as $0.01. That's when I swiped the card. Aparently she intervined and made this "see attendant" message show up.
But maybe I didn't pick "credit card" before swiping, don't remember.

That's interesting.

So the person after you scanned their items after you had left and your CC info was still in the system? I wouldn't think you could add items after you scanned your card and info would stay in the system, but I have never tried either.

I'd be more pissed their system was keeping your CC info in the system for that long. I'd figure it should at least time out by then.

Picked up a few Commercial Electric Under Cabinet LED lights today for a penny each. Can't remember the sku off hand but will check tonight after work.

Also saw these items that I'll be watching until they hit **.03 status.

^ ^ ^ If you received no merchandise, then dispute the ENTIRE charge with credit card company and HD will have to prove that they sold you stuff and got your signature on receipt as $50 purchase does REQUIRE a signature. That's an easy dispute that you'll win.

Obtained a second Echo blower today. Was one of the easiest penny purchases I have made, and I have made quite a few penny purchases. I spotted this blower approximately three weeks ago, but was unaware as to whether or not the PB-500H was on sale (you can still find a listing for same on HD.COM) like the PB-500T until someone posted their purchase of one on the site.

Went to the store today, went to the indoor garden area and picked it up off the blower display rack - it was in the spot where a PB-580T should have been. The blower is complete, and the tubes - this time the proper tubes- were sitting right next to it. Put it in my cart and headed to the Customer Service Counter (decided not to go to the SCO based on some of the comments recently made on this site. Decided instead to talk with the Manager on Duty (MOD) to see if he would agree to purchase first vice arguing at the SCO - which is what has happened at this store before). Asked the attendant to call the MOD. In the meantime and older gentleman working the Garden area came over to help. Told him that I found the blower on the display rack and that I would like to purchase same (it had a tag holder on it but no pricing or SKU). Told him that I had the SKU (had the picture of the tag from the PB-500T I purchased last week) and he looked relieved (don't think given his age he is really hip on using the hand-held computer that HD employs). We walked over to the display area, where he checked the SKU I gave him and noted that the blower was a penny. MOD met us at the blowers and the older gentlemen told him that I found the blower, wished to purchase same, and that it was an older model which had been discontinued. MOD told him to sell it to me. Older gentlemen asked him for a dollar amount showing him the hand-held. MOD said that it showed a penny, so that would be what I would pay.

He further stated that it was not my fault that they failed to remove it from the shelf - I could have hugged him right there, finally a manager who understands and embraces the company policy. Thanked him and the older gentlemen for their help, took the blower to the Customer Service Center, paid my penny, and took the blower out to my vehicle before someone changed their mind. Went back into the store and checked out some other items but found no earth shattering deals.

To date - found two PB-500 blowers (one PB-500T and one PB-500H) - will need to decide which I will keep and which will go to my son.

Went to another store where I had seen a 26-gallon compressor that had been released for the April 9th event. I grabbed a picture of the box and SKU, but due to the fact that I had to get home, did not have the time to pursue a price on the compressor that day (the same day I saw the PB-500H above). Went home and checked HD.COM with respect to the SKU and could not find a listing associated with same. Contacted a friend at a local HD and asked them to check the SKU and they could not find anything associated with same - which may have indicated that it was no longer active. Went today to check on the compressor, but it was long gone. Checked the store for other items, but only found five rolls of HDX Blue Painters Tape which were a penny each.

Last store I checked I found four GE 24" LED Under Counter Lights for a penny each. Again, not earth shattering, but given that I never expect to find anything - and unfortunately there a more days than not that this is true - I figured I did fairly well - 10 items for 10 cents.

Don't worry neither of the stores I found the blowers at were in DC or Hyattsville. However, I understand that the employees at both of these store miss you and want to know when you will be returning......

BTW - Found several of the 18 Combination Wrench sets at my local store - but they are still $29.99. Couldn't find any at the three stores I visited today so hopefully the reductions may occur shortly at my store. Also, in preparation for the upcoming Pro Event on Thursday, saw several of the Red Milwalkee Tool Box/Chest combos being readied for sale (they had a sheet identifying them as part of the event). May have to go to the event to see what happens......

I purchased that compressor early in the year at .03 clearance level.

$300 for the top and $400 for the bottom, unless they have a special going on for that event. Had an employee scan them a few weeks ago when I first noticed them in the overhead

it was under $50 no signature
My Discover card put the charges back on my account twice.
nobody wants to do anything. I'll have discover eat this charge. not my problem the cashier in store is an idiot who wasn't trained enough

I think what may have happened was the cashier removed the "see attendant" message, but did not clear the whole transaction. I won't be surprised if that customer has one penny item on the receipt.

Found 2 more of the Ariston 4 gallon water heaters at one store. Cashier noticed the penny price when the warranty question popped up on her screen so she called the MOD who initially said they were defective and they couldn't sell them. When I politely pushed back she called her own manager who told her to sell them for a penny. Kudos to the cashier and MOD for handling the situation very professionally.

Found a Echo 500T on display , went to the service counter, girl said penny, then called the asst mgr over . He said can not sell it and I offered the last clearance price and still said no way. As I walked away he put it in a cart and wheel it to the back somewhere.

Got home and called H.D. , CS guy called the store and the mgr said it was going back to the mfg.

CS said he would give me 10% off a newer model, (big deal)..

I should have waited until tomorrow for real customer service and the store would have a different mgr in..

If I have time maybe I'll call H.D. CS back and see if anyone else would help out...

image.jpgHad an interesting night tonight. I found 2 husky socket sets for a penny. I also finally found the Milwaukee 25 pc. shockwave impact bit set for $2.53.

Things got interesting when I found another old B&D 20v trimmer combo, and a Ryobi 18v pruner. I had to get an associat to get the B&D down, but the pruner was sitting right on the shelf. The dust on the pruner was so thick, you couldn't see through it, and the B&D set had clearly be opened and resealed. The pruner didn't come up in the price check, so figured it would be a penny. Same with the B&D. Well, the pruner was so old (don't even sell it online anymore), it came up not found, and brought up the see attendant notice. She comes over, sees the B&D rang up a penny, and says they can't sell it. She tries multiple times to ring up the pruner, but it's not happening. She pages someone from hardware, because I want my penny B&D. Another lady comes over, scans both items, and tells me they can't sell them. I politely stand my ground, and they page the manager. He calls, the attendant rights down the B&D sku, and tells me they can now sell that one, but not the pruner. Works for me. I get home and open up the box. Not only is there no battery, charger, or paperwork, but the string trimmer is missing the handle and string guard. I couldn't help but get a laugh out of that. At least I can add the hedge trimmer to the blower and string trimmer i got for free. That combo did have a battery and the cheap charger.

They don't "have" to sell the displays. CS won't help you, it is store's choice. If you call back, they will also have a log of the call you just made the day before and will somewhat rehash what the other person already told you.

A different manager may have had a different opinion, but as I mentioned, the corporate policy is the same in that displays are not required to be sold.

When I called corporate buying the display model blowers, I never mentioned that it was a display.. I just said the item scanned as a penny and they're not selling it at a penny.

Could do this. When corporate calls the store though, I'm sure the manager won't hesitate to say it's a display if he knows the policy and doesn't want to sell it. Best case, he swallows his pride, understands that his team was in the wrong and says displays fall into the same penny policy that if it's on the shelf they should sell it for the price it rings up at.

SPN, you were obviously dealing with managers who knew they/their team were in the wrong regardless of what the "display policy" actually is. He didn't try to CYA himself by saying he couldn't sell displays like the lady I dealt with in Virginia did.

Them saying they "can't sell displays" is just another loophole for them to get out of having to sell something they should have removed from the shelf IMO if they want to CYA. Just like saying that items in the rafters that you know have been there for months are "waiting to be sent back". Just two things they can use against us...

Either way, good luck. You can try calling back and not mentioning it was a display, but if you said it was a display when you called yesterday, don't be surprised if the person on the phone notices you just called and ask if this is in regards to the same item since you had last said was a display.
