Quite a few of the Black Friday items are already being discounted here. Except 1. This item actually went up at the 2 stores I checked. It's remarked like all the discounted items so if you didn't know what it was originally, you might think you are getting a better deal, lol. Guess it goes both ways.

I got it! Got someone in the department to unlock it from the display rack. Then took it to customer service. They called over a department manager who didn't want to sell it at first, he showed me they glue the gas caps on the display models, I told him I'd buy it anyway. After looking it up in the computer and seeing it was a penny he said: "I can't sell it for a penny. You can have it". They took the security tag off it and I left. Felt a little weird not having a receipt for it.

Now I just have to take inventory of what's missing and figure out how to get the gas tank open or replace it.

Thanks for the help!

Congrats! You should be able to get the gas cap off I would think. Super glue is strong but not that strong.

The parts for these are actually pretty cheap so you should be all set. It looks pretty complete based on the pictures so.

$40.03 ea. I got 3 sealed boxes, an open box I inspected, and the floor model (has battery). I already have one of these I love and the 14" brushless chainsaw. Plus I "work" for a non-profit that has the Expand-It 40V string trimmer (which *****).

Hot water will "release" superglue most of the time. Worth a try if you soak or slowly pour over just the cap somehow. Good score though!

Really surprised superglue works on the caps....I feel like the gas tanks are made of a "shiny, smooth" type plastic that superglue wouldnt stick to.

Wonder if you could try pouring a bit of acetone around where the cap meets the tank to try and dissolve the glue.

My store claimed three on the Price Checker as well. When I got to the aisle I saw only the display and one on the floor in an open box. Then an employee helped me and we found three sealed boxes overhead. Total 4 + display.

Note these come in a 2-pack in a plain cardboard box. My store's pretty good about scribbling the SKU on the overhead boxes, and I just happened to notice "298-815" on a plain box.

I use the hell out the chainsaw and was regularly going thru 3 batteries on the property this fall. So more batteries - at $40 ea- are always welcome. Plus I'll give one or two to my non-profit so they can have batteries for their string trimmer.

My wife asked "what are you going to do with all the weedeaters?" I was like you're missing the point, it's $40 40V batteries for tools I use LOL

Krazy Glue's website specifically says acetone will do it. But some plastics "melt" w acetone (although I'd hope anything that holds up to gasoline wouldn't) so test first on an unimportant area. Wipe it somewhere and see if the plastic smears or clouds.

That's why a few people have backed out of buying the Ego chainsaws I have on CL....they looked at battery replacement cost.

Granted they don't seem savvy enough to look places other than MSRP Depot.

Hello Where did you find the Nest. Every HD I have checked had only a paper on display. You go to CS to pick them up.

Depends on the store. Some have them paper some have them in plastic security cases on the shelf.

The 1 cent deals are rarely advertised, meaning you need to hunting for them in the overheads by sku number or model number.

Some stores have them on display but that is rare, though I did find one today on display for a penny:

Wipe it with gasoline first and see what happens.

This store showed two in the app but there was very obviously three right there on the shelf. I didn't even look for a display or the overhead for others. There may be more.

According to stage20, the moral thing to do would have been for us to politely go to the service counter and tell them that their inventory count was wrong and that we would like them to fix it so that they don't get taken on clearance and penny deals in the future.

In your case you should have only "morally" purchased three since that's what inventory showed.

Try and look under the cap. I bought a display toro blower that was also sealed at the gas cap but it wasn't super glue. It was like that yellow foam you put around the house to seal up openings so spiders/air won't come in. I just grabbed some channel locks and turned it. Then I peeled off what was stuck on there. As sometime mentioned, it's new, smooth plastic so stuff won't cling onto it too bad.

Forgot to mention, the store I went to last night has one of the Bosch miter stands left at $150 (that was computer qty, I didn't verify the shelf, but they had 2 before, so 1 should be accurate).

The Rheem water heaters have again dropped in the past few weeks. They are all under $100 now.

My last 7 rebates were declined. Called and he approved them all

So I called and tried today. The stores I purchased at were not part of the promotion. My understanding is it is a Mernard's rebate or something to that effect. Never heard of the store till this year and there aren't any local so they refused to honor rebate. Kinda *****. Oh well was worth the shot. :dunno:

So does the .02 or .03 apply to just the yellow clearance tags? Or also normal tags?

I found some work stands. Shows 6 in stock, but there was only 2 pushed back behind other stuffs. They are dusty. Price showed 25.72

Only clearance stuff. There is regular priced stuff that ends in 2, 3, 4, 6 etc.

Call back and ask for a manager. I live in New Hampshire and there isn't a Menards within a 500 mile radius

Gotcha. But it is possible for an item to be on clearance but not have a yellow tag/ or inaccurate pricing? Do the store computers show what the actual price would be upon checkout? Or do you have to take item to SCO to know for sure?

Thanks

Read the link in SPN1025's signature above, I think it will answer a lot of your questions.

Just to add on this, when you call about your rebates, stay on the phone until they update ALL of your rebates. I just double checked mine and only 1 of 7 was updated, when the guy I talked to last night said he would approve them all. Had to call back again today. Now 6 are approved with 1 that had to be sent to "upper management" for whatever reason, because he "couldn't edit it".

All of them were showing declined because "the store number was invalid" or the "receipt dates were wrong", then when he looked at the receipts, he noticed they were right.

They must have people who can't read English inputting this data.

Or the default is deny deny deny and only fix it when the customer calls and complains.

My bet is they are banking on most people forgetting or not wanting to bother talking on the phone.

Just picked up 3 of these trimmers for $40.03 each. They will make nice Xmas gifts. I may give them to my neighbors with crappy lawns. Maybe they will get the hint.

lol good idea. I have a gas unit but don't have a ton of trimming to do, so I am almost tempted to pick one up myself.

I'm working on cleaning the blower up today. Thanks for the suggestions on breaking the super glue on the cap. Hot water didn't work in this case, acetone did the trick. Although I had to use quite a bit and it still took awhile, they really glued it on. The cap parts are crusty from the glue but will work for now. Looks like I'm missing the air filter, the end tube, and one of the housing bolts.

I also just scored 5 9.2lb bags of Scotts fire ant killer for a penny each. SKU: 233016

Shouldn't have any issue finding those parts. Will be a nice blower for I would guess less than $25 in parts!
