Anyone have experience with this garage door opener. A local store has 2. I am on the fence about waiting for a better price. Both of mine are not working and for 84 bucks probably not worth fixing.

I also had a chat with a 3 year employee about penny items. She said it was her job to be sure there were none. She stated "poor management" was the cause of that. I would have to agree with her. I just don't understand why the computer system uses that method to eliminate stock?

Some stores in my area seem to have the blower for 79 bucks if anyone is interested.

That's one heck of a deal on the drill bits. What is your local store? And will HD usually match another locations price?

Keep a close eye on them and wait for .02 pricing. Should be around 42.02 and likely to be in the next week or two I would say.

So is there a way to find what stores actually have the dewalt toolbox in stock?

I went to my local store and they had none and the cashier checked the computer and said there were zero in our district.

However these are on the website and say they are online only but none are available to order. I find it hard to believe there are none to be found.

nope just have to call around.... I had to drive 3 hours to pick mine up, but I paid for it over the phone and they held it for about a week. They also let me use a lowes 10% off coupon to bring my cost to around 620 out the door

Looking at adding another Gladiator toolbox to my garage. The yellow sticker has a date that's 6 weeks old today. Talked to the dept manager yesterday and he stated he was not sure if this price drop was the first or last. I asked how much longer he thinks they will stay on the floor and he said 4-5 months. The fact you can get much better deals on other brand toolbox/chests is the reason these don't sell.

What do you think? I'm in no real rush so should I just continue to wait or do you think the price probably won't go down any lower and I should buy it?

My wife has been working at our local HD for around 8 or 9 years now. She is the one for our store that is responsible for marking down the items to a penny, and also for removing them from the system.

The way it works (and is supposed to be done by ALL stores, but results vary greatly as yall have discovered) is every monday monring she logs into the computer system that tells her which items are now going to a penny, and she then marks them down in the computer system with her acknowledgement. She then removes the items from the shelf that same day, usually completing it before lunch.

Assuming your store actually does this the way they should, i would assume that Monday morning is the best time to find penny deals.

Notice the met team comes in mondays and tuesday in my area. I over heard some of them how they are too lazy to check for every single item. I also made friends with 2 of them. :) over the years I've learned it pays to be nice to the employees at these stores.

You need to be a little more observant. Now please observe my signature.

I did read your sig links, quite a while ago, and thank you for posting them. I will re read them again.

What I have observed at my HD is that there are NO store computers available for customer access. I would feel very out of place striding behind the employees only section behind the pro desk counter and helping my self to their data systems. Some of you guys talk about using the store's computer as nonchalantly as if it were your own, and I just don't have the chutzpah to cross that line. Therefore, any "app" on an internal HD data system is moot.

It could be that my local store is arranged differently... with more security bars and gates and closed doors due to what I perceive might be a higher crime prone (shoplifting, I imagine) clientele.

Just picked up 4 of them for $75 each. Plan to resale and get the 2 I need for free.

06GM thanks for the advice.
msgross which one do you want? Are these decent for the money?

these are good for the money, last year I paid $140 (on sale) for one without the internet portal thingy, works great. I'll keep 2 of these and let the other 2 pay for the whole lot when I sell them for $150 each.

Not much today. 1 more Temp2o Kit at one store and 27 soaker hoses at another

How long are the hoses? Could use a few for next summer. ...

Found a refurbished echo blower tucked in the back of the garden area. What are the odds the original UPC scans for a penny?

I have a lead on a refurb blower too. I didn't have time to fight for it when I was in the store. I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to scan it on the original UPC though.

The hoses are 25'. SKU: 422-371

So far, every store I've been in has a computer accessible to customers without going behind a desk. Sometimes that means the PC in appliances, sometimes they have an area marked for customers with a chair to browse comfortably. I've never walked behind a counter in an employee only area to use the PC, and I don't believe anyone else on here has.

In KC for the weekend. Searched two stores, one of them only for about 20 minutes. Found a penny toslink optical cable. Hope to hit a couple of other stores before heading home Sunday.

My closest store had it at $299 still, but another had a NLP sticker at $229. They even took my wrinkled, black and white printed 20% off HF coupon without blinking!

No time for penny deal searches, besides I couldn't find a kiosk.

Who had the DW745 saw for 229.00?
I need to get one before they are gone, I like it better than the DWE7480 model. Waiting for the price to go down still

Home Depot, though some stores still have it for $299. Don't trust the website, you have to go in or call and ask them to check the in store system. While you're at it give the Harbor Freight coupon a try.

So I decided to make my first trip. I took about 2-3hours going through almost every isle and two trips to the pro desk to use the computer to check and look up skus and prices. My local HD doesn't have a customer computer hidden away elsewhere, but I pretty much stood there looking up everything I could without a single employee bugging me.

I really really wanted to get some cans of WD40, being 26 years old and a mechanical engineer that builds Battlebots and other random things, it would have been too useful to stock up. I sadly could not find the 1cent cans anywhere... I would have even paid a dollar for them.

I tried to find the 25' soaker hose, couldn't find it. I tried to find the hose reel, only found the following model:
VTzmH6x.jpg

Looked through the garage door openers, the trimmers, the chainsaws, the smart lighting switches.... I was coming up dry. At least I was getting an even better understanding of the store layout in ways I wouldn't normally think about.

Saw some duct tape that didn't seem like a good price, but I took a picture anyway:
RTrj4xt.jpg

Found a bunch of husky cabinet/garage storage kind of stuff in the back of the store on clearance that I am eager to watch:
Ai9uhM9.jpg

uy6NBK7.jpg

sbCgNjs.jpg

As well as some wall mounted storage track system stuff:
6h1LLPv.jpg

CoCe8uI.jpg

Seems like they are making room for another variant to replace it, I saw it but forgot the brand name already.

This brings me to what I did end up finding...
My mom is a float supervisor/director type person for the Rose Parade floats. She actually just told me about losing a pair of flower pruner/cutters, so I went after the Corona Veggie cutters. I read about some people not even seeing the brand in their stores as the fiskars are taking over (saw that happening as well), but luckily I found a Corona cabinet of products outside in the garden department.

Alas, no veggie 1cent cutters... There were, however, two pair of Floral snips and a razor tooth pruning saw. My father loves to use a similar saw for breaking down small branches for disposal. I grabbed these even though they had a standard white tag label and took them up to the computer to check their prices. Low and behold, they had clearance prices!

The saw was $5.03 (normally just under $20):
CyHITWj.jpg

WCeXGzH.jpg

The two pair of floral snips were $4.03 each (normally about $11-12):
WBOJ3id.jpg

H39XI4M.jpg

My mother and father were very happy to receive these so I felt like my efforts paid off. I also got an extra pair of Floral snips and a pair of the elusive veggie cutters for free because there was a pair of each without any box totally trashed (dirty/rusty) and the garden lady told me to take them.

In fact, one of the floral snips has some light surface rust on them in the box... Some steel wool, oil, and maybe a touch up on a stone should bring all these cutters up to par.

I found one more item in the Garden area:
GYW9nhl.jpg

f60hnKK.jpg

AIJhtO7.jpg

These had the tell tale signs of clearance for way too long. The tags were really weather aged and faded. I grabbed two of the three pair and took them to the computer with the snips I had obtained. The gloves didn't show up in the computer price check. I thought that was odd and wanted to take the chance and bring them up to the self check-out with my other items (Which I think is generally a good idea, to buy other items at more understandable prices and slip the 00.01 items in near the end. You can always return whatever else you buy if you really want to).

BOOM, my first penny deal on my first time with this knowledge:
tB9AhaT.jpg

So, I dropped my bags off in my car and wanted to see how the store would handle the following situation. I grabbed the last pair (and made sure I actually had a penny on me as I don't normally carry change). Went up to the garden checkout to confront the dreaded human interaction. It was poor timing as the previous garden lady was super backed up on tons of little plants of some other lady and garden lady called in assistance twice, apparently. A young male rang me up, but a manager-esque mid-aged lady had came to check-up on the situation with the garden department getting backed up.

Gloves scanned as 0.01 - young male goes "oh, it rang up as 0.01" and turned and asked manager-esque mid-aged lady about it. She pulled out some little notebook with handwritten notes and seemingly came up with some arbitrary price of $5 without directly talking to me. I kinda of questioned this price and the fact that it came up as 0.01 and it should be sold at that price with a corporate policy line tossed in there, but she wouldn't really have that and said something along the lines of, "It's not corporate policy, these gloves normally cost $10 and I will give you the price of $5." I turned down the gloves after asking to take a picture of both sides of the label but forgot to ask for her name if I ever care to send an email about it later (doubt it).

It wouldn't bug me so bad if it didn't seem like she had some random scribblings and kind of came up with the price of $5. The time it took for him to read the sku to this lady to find some random number in her book and assign a price seemed like a terrible act to me and has bugged me since. If it was some price scan type sheet that was typed I wouldn't have questioned this exchange or action so much. Oh well, I can't believe I got my first penny deal even if it was for some chinese made gloves.

I shall watch this for updates and might check-in with the two closest stores. One is newer and might not have old stock type things anyway, the other generally has way more items than my local store and might be perfect condition for penny deals. This is all in Southern California.

Well, that would explain why I never run across them. Thursday is my usual go to HD and see what I can find on clearance day. :)

I think they got a new manager at my local HD. About a year ago, they had a HUGE clearance area up at the front of the store, and every once in a great while I'd run across some of the penny stuff that they'd just leave up there (usually stuff that was cheap to begin with), but basically everything in the store that was on clearance was rounded up there. Then it just went away, replaced with a couple of much smaller areas on endcaps. Most of the stuff there gets sold/rotated out by the staff pretty quickly. It is rare that anything sits around for more than a month or so now.

Should we move this party over to the new 2016 thread?

(If I'm out of line for making such a request - my apologies.)

Just that it's difficult enough (damn near impossible) to keep up with one deals thread - I'd have to quit my job to even make an honest attempt at keeping up with two. [emoji3]
