For a TV mount, just use a #3 or a flat blade that "fits". It won't go anywhere.

There were no inexpensive driver bit sets that had a #4?

I've probably used one six times in my entire tire life, usually working on something like an outboard motor.

May be their computer inventory system told them nobody ever buys that size, so they quit stocking it.

This is what I was going to say. I know exactly which fasteners he's talking about and I was damn sure that the one of the extensive Ryobi and/or Dewalt bit sets I have would have a #4. Hell I was using some of these fasteners just a weekend or so ago and remember using the bit. I went out there to check and sure enough, not a single #4 among them, all #3. That said, I used the #3's thinking they were the correct one and I have no issues whatsoever.

I bought a #4 when I replaced all my screwdrivers with PBSwiss, don't know why I got it except to get a complete set of all sizes. hell, it has never seen a fastener yet and probably never will, what a waste of $25. Even the #3 hardly ever gets used, I think maybe twice I had to break it out.

Try putting a Robertson driver (square head) in that screw it might fit well, There are quite a few phillips screws that square works with it.

Bingo Robertson. We do that all the time with #3 or larger.

#4 Phillips is used on older tractors. The large screws can be a pain to get out.

Always had a Snap-on screwdriver with the bolster like the larger one in the picture and a bit socket on a impact driver for those. Have replaced the lost Snap-on driver with a Mac Comfort-Grip #4 and also have a new Instinct #4. One use were those large Snap-on Instinct handles are actually useful

Didn't think fasteners that required a #4 Phillips driver were common anymore.

I would have returned the tv mount. If it took a bit that big it should have been a hex anyway.

Stainless specifically. Galls, then snaps, tough to drill. No reason to use unless the high levels of corrosion resistance are required.

Try to find a Pozidriv screwdriver at HD. Yeah, I know they don’t sell PH4. Probably because they don’t sell any fasteners that are PH4.

Exactly. And if they do sell them, you have to buy a store-brand 35772-bit set, not an individual bit, and definitely not a good quality one.

Last time I needed some, I ordered from Amazon with next day delivery. F'em.

I believe I have used a #4 Phillips once in my lifetime. I remember thinking to myself, that is one big *** Phillips screw.

Is there a reason the screws had to be Phillips head and couldn't just be swapped out for equivalent hex head bolts?

HD’s overall tool and hardware selection has been annoying me lately. Not a great selection of bolts or nuts, unless it’s a real common size, (Nothing 9/16”, no 1/2” fine thread, etc.). Stuff they do carry is often in limited sizes. Menards cross town carries a **** ton, but thankfully so does a TSC which is more local. It’s definitely just a home hardware store....which I guess is in the business name...but come on. They have a “hand tool” depart, is it so unreasonable they might carry what those tools are cranking on?

At least the employees there seem knowledgeable, or at least most of them do. One time I asked about metal countersink bits and got pointed to wood ones....oh well.

I think I could walk into the NAPA store on the way home and buy a 5/16" insert #4 Phillips screwdriver bit.

Home Depot doesn't sell triangle bits either, but I knew that was a long shot...
