Was in HD today, they had the large top and bottom 41" tool boxes for total price of $299.00. SKU#635958, Model HTC405 and HMT405. I'm tool box poor but it makes me think about buying the combo and putting the bottom under my bench and slide out the top one. These they have huge tall drawers which would be great for storing drills air tools etc in the bottom.
Just wanted to pass it on.

My Buddy Shane down in Atlanta let me in on this little gem yesterday. After calling all the local Detroit area HD's I found one...gotta say I'm very impressed for the money...I would not hesitate to pull the trigger!

I work now as an outside vendor for HD. And when I first saw the boxes I was kinda impressed, but then I played with it...not so impressed. Now as a vendor for HD, I see a few of these in the receiving area marked as RTV(return to vendor) 90% of them have the same issues - the slides look grenade'd. And this is at about 11 of the 18 stores on my weekely route. To those who have this box/s, don't go by the max weight as per spec-go under...a lot under.
My $0.02

Ouch.

I was going to ask if these boxes had ball bearing sliders. I guess not, :)

I played with their boxes in the store after hearing about the cheap tool chest deal. I was not impressed with the quality of them at all, still hard to beat the Harborfreight 41" tool chest.

Wow, makes me glad I didn't load this into my car last year when I saw it for $299 in the Seattle area. The only reason I didn't buy it is because I can't stand top chests. It does have ball bearing slides though, I think rated for 50lbs? The box did feel 'thin' and cheap, but I figured it was a pretty good deal for the price. I'm sure if you occasionally used it nicely from a home garage, it would be fine.

I think people need to realize that this isn't a Pro mechanic's tool box...it's every bit as nice as my craftsman...if not better...and was less money...and would be perfect for home garage...I took back 2 craftsman before I found one that the drawers opened correctly and after only 2 years it's breaking down...it is what it is...for $269...it's a good deal but don't think it's a snap-on and you'll be ok

hmm i have 2 of thoes box's welll just like that ones a bit bigger. One at home one at my shop and never had a prob. have all my air tools in one of the sliders and never a prob. When i went to move my box last time i had to use a fork lift as it was way to heavy for 4 people to lift.

You Americans are getting a way better deal. HD in Canada has this.

I thought it was a decent deal, but noted that the drawers did feel a bit flimsy, and the top chests are not very deep.... I was contemplating it, but am actually trying to clear up floor space in my garage, not add to it.

I have a Torin 27" one from a Cdn Costco that I got 2 yrs ago that I really like.

We get a cheap 27" one is $249Cdn, (or $1 million US pesos - sorry, couldn't resist)
You guys get a cheap 41" one for $299US!

re: flimsy drawers. Our 3 cars plus motorcycle are all 8-11 yrs old. Doing my own maintenance on them, the drawers probably on average get opened/closed 2-3x /drawer/week. I would hope they would last such light use.
