Saw these today, and many many others. The only reason my wallet is intact today is that I have all of them. For a beginner, these would be perfect.

Last Christmas season my local HD was selling 268 or 270 piece Husky sets for $100. (I did a thread on it). I bought three for prizes at a local charity raffle. They had almost 100 of them for sale. If you see those good deals don’t hesitate to snap them up. I bought a couple of Craftman sets with boxes at Lowe’s (also very cheap) for when my nephews get old enough.

Yep, HD and Lowe's are good practical go-too tool suppliers these days imo. Plenty of singles (i.e. warranty replacements) with stores just about everywhere.

Why is everybody so hung up on warrantee? I have never broken anything unless I was knowingly abusing it past it's intended purpose or wore it out. I would not warantee a worn out socket. It served me well for 30 years and will just buy another then.

I did call SO a year ago to order a couple rebuils kits for my ratchets and they would not let me pay for them. I told them it plain wore out but they wouldn't allow me to pay for them :headscrat

I recently moved, and sold everything in the garage for one lot price, and that left me with no tools. I figured I'd get what I needed at Harbor Freight, since I would only be using them for DIY chores around the house.

Last week I was in Home Depot getting some stuff and saw this and had to ask an employee if this was the correct price. They assured me that it was.

Then I saw this right next to the Tool Set. A 28 piece wrench, both SAE and metric set for $25.

Hmm, let's see what else they have. They had a combo ratcheting wrench set for $56, and those wrenches come in very handy for getting into hard to reach places. Set included SAE and Metric, as well as matching stubby wrenches.

Granted these aren't SnapOn quality but they beat Harbor Freight by a wide margin in fit and finish. I might go back and get the flexible metric ratcheting set for my car.

Next time you are in Home Depot check out these wrench sets.

I had a husky ratchet that broke and spun freely after very little light use. They gave me a new one

I wish there was a Home Depot closer to me, mainly because they carry Klien tools. But Lowe's has Ideal, Knipex, and even some Malco tools. Between the two, there are a lot of good brands to choose from, which is nice when you want to see something in person before buying.

Lowe's cannot compete with HD. HD has Milwaukee, Lowes doesn't. Ideal is far less attractive than Klein. You can think of HD as a varsity team, while Lowe's has a junior varsity team.

Except you can't really walk into a Lowes and gte rebranded Facom, only Ace. lowes is only selling the v-series products online.

HD is 100x better than Lowes for selection, in my opinion. Unfortunately, the closest one to me is 45 miles away. I did stop in there and grab the $100 Gearwrench set to have as a backup to my backup. LOL

Showing a picture of Gearwrench and saying that HD has "upped their game" is kind of laughable. The most overrated tool brand on here by a wide margin. People always talk about warranty issues and yet I have broken more of their ratcheting wrenches than any other tools I have combined. I purchased a couple of close out sets at Sears like six or seven years ago for work and 5 of 14 have stripped. Terrible product.

Agree with what you’re saying here. Gearwrench and Milwaukee Chinese/Taiwan made hand tools are better than …?

I don't consider Husky or Gearwrench an upgrade over much of anything. Arguably the best marketing team in the tool business, though.

It's anecdotal, but what I hear about GW here in terms of customer service has pointed me to Tekton every time in that price category (though they are stepping up w/ some of their stuff - MiUSA, etc).

I had a SATA (Apex owned, owns factories in China, where much of GW/Husky/etc is made) ratchet come apart (the snap ring broke, I think, the whole thing went Sproing!) I made a warranty claim on line, didn't hear anything. Three weeks later, UPS delivered a replacement.

My own (anecdotal) experience with the Gearwrench warranty has been nothing but positive. I’ve only had to warranty two things from them ever, and both times it was easy - talk to someone on the phone, and a replacement arrives in the mail in about three days. Just like the Tekton warranty everyone seems to rave about around here…

Milwaukee power tools may be made in China but they are built to Milwaukee's specs. NO other power tool company offers a 5 year no questions asked warranty. Every one of my more than 40 Milwaukee tools has outlived its warranty. You think the 3 yr DeWalt warranty is good? If the tool is used in a professional, commercial, or production environment the warranty is only 90 days. Read your fine print. Hell Harbor Freight also warranties for 90 days.

China makes a whole lot of good stuff. But whether the products are good or bad mostly is the results of US companies. For example, those made in china Weber grills are very good. But they are just too expensive even made in China. As long as Weber makes them, I hope they are made in Africa. Who cares. At least I can afford a Genesis with 6 pots.

Well I took a look again today. All the $100 Milwaukee square socket sets are sold out. Talking about brand power! I would think the $100 GW set is a better deal.

No number. It's ez to find online. Small one is $100, larger one is $200. I saw people selling the larger one on CL for $150 though.

I have that tool set waiting for pick up.
They're holding it for me till my step ladder is ready to be picked up.

HD seriously has so many good tool deals now. The two folding Milwaukee utility knife for $15 is great! 26 Husky Allen wrench for only $10. Etc
