So my Husky toolbox broke today, one of the welds on a drawer let go and the front is hanging off. So,since it's supposed to have a lifetime warranty,I take a trip to the home depot where I bought it.Customer service lady, after waiting ten minutes says"I don't know anything about toolboxes".Directs me to another associate who is supposed to be the toolbox guy. After waiting a 1/2hour for him to finish selling some guy a trailer he looks at me and says"I don't know anything about toolboxes".HMMM....So he does eventually try to help, gets me a phone number for the company they get the boxes from, long distance, not an 800 number and says call the supplier and see if they will help.Says he doesn't remember them ever having a 40"wide box.I don't think I'll be spending my long distance minutes,I'll be back in to see someone higher up the food chain tommorow. Here's a couple pics of the drawer:

Just a suggestion -- I know it *****, but rather than deal with idiots, why not just weld it up yourself. You obviously have a nice shop so I'm sure you have a welder. Considering the amount of frustration and wasted time, just chalk it up as a lesson learned.

That's probably what's going to end up happening but I was hoping to get a new drawer as I was going to put this box up for sale and a weld spot/repaint will make it harder to get rid of.

If you have a Tig do it with that.you can control the heat and just move aound tacking it till it is done and it wont burn the paint as bad.Have someone hold a Ice cold wet rag on the front and you wont burn the paint.

HD's life time warranty may be different in Canada as it may be an entirly different supplier up there.

BTW CB is my family's second old country.

Aren't those boxes made in Canada by Beach? I didn't know they had a lifetime warranty. I thought they were only warrantied for a year.

Husky tools are horrible now!

the old ones were great but now that stanley owns them, you can forget about quality.

They also want you to bring a receipt now, it is listed on the back of all the packages.

call the HD 1-800 customer service number and see what they say.
you can also look to see what the warranty reads to see what amo it gives you to hit them with

Don't weld it. You'll just burn the damn thing up. Even if you had a spot welder. Put some pop rivets in place of the busted spot welds and be done.

The box is made by beach. It has a year warranty thru them but lifetime thru home depot according to what I was told when I bought it.I have never really considered it a very decent box so I was getting ready to sell it soon and now this.I'll see what they say tommorow when I go in.The customer service skills I encountered tonight were non existant. What agravates me the most is the crappy service, nobody knows anything or seems like they want to.It's not just with the toolbox,it seems like everytime I go into the store I leave wondering why I went there in the first place, associates see you coming and run the other way, nobody can give you an answer about anything. If you look at the Husky boxes on their website they say "limited lifetime"warranty. This box is about a year old.I'd just like another drawer so I can unload this box for something else.As a side note all the new boxes in the store now say waterloo instead of husky,an attempt to get out of warranties?

The phone number they gave me in store is supposed to be "national hand tool" who is supposed to be the supplier for husky/home depot.

i remember a few years ago (10? 12?) when they first came out with Husky, they had a huge selection, mechanics tool sets, everything. Like they were trying to compete with craftsman. Most of it seemed pretty good for the price. I have a big husky socket set from 5 or so years ago -i like it. Now its just a bunch of chinese **** that says husky on it.

I agree with Elroy...put some rivets in it for now so you'll have a working drawer. And keep trying to get HD to honor their warranty.

I had a similar problem with a box I have...put two rivets in it and it looks okay. Not very noticeable after it was repainted.

The husky line has been around for awhile. More than 10 years.:thumbup:

True, except for their screw drivers. Seems these are still made in USA. Maybe Western Forge ???

not true i think. The tag on the shelf says western forge for some of them, but i have in my posession a sample screwdriver and nut driver I obtained from a factory in china. They fedexed these samples to me from china. Well when i got them, one had the husky logo on the side of it!

I've got the same bottom box, made in Canada. HD doesn't carry the Husky Pro anymore. Just a Husky box that's made in China. They now all have the lousy drawers that slam shut if you let go of the drawer. You'll probably have to go through Beach to get any help. Good luck.

I had a drawer front do that........clean the mating surfaces with brake cleaner or some other solvent, then.........Krazy Glue the damn thing back together...you would be surprised how well it holds:lol_hitti really ! clamp over night after applying glue. Then buy a better box.......

I would expect that this is not the case. The guy making the decision on what boxes to carry is accountable for sales this year. He/she could care less about the rare warranty return. (It is clear that they don't have a process to manage this anyway.) He probably just got promoted up to the job from buying door knobs six month ago. Don't overestimate the sophistication or intelligence of retail buyers. Waterloo probably offered better pricing if Home Depot used the Waterloo name instead of the Husky name.

Um, the original poster says Home Depot *****.
Second that in spades.

Last night I needed some panels. The three local HD stores are all just about ghost towns, with more employees than customers.
So of course the customer service was even worse. No one would wait on me, then when I finally got cranky with the management an assistant manager helped, but had to leave in the middle because his kid had a school function that night. The somewhat drunken guy that eventually (30 minutes later) showed up to finish the cuts, was whining about the recession, how they weren’t doing as much business, but he still had to come in on his day off because another employee was hung over.

Right, HD *****.

Call the tool number we keep posting. I suspect Husky (Stanley) will send you the parts if you talk to them. No one at HD has a clue.

Strange for a Beach made box to lose the front. I grues they don't make'em like they use to.

Stay far away form those Waterloo boxes from HD. A buddy of mine just bought a black (PRO I think) 28" +/- box and it is the biggest piece of **** I have seen in a long time. I'm pretty sure its made of tinfoil.

Don't have anything to add about the box problem, but I agree about HD. Had many problems with employees there, even when it's slow. They try to avoid eye contact with you, and when you finally track them down, they don't know anything about anything.

Sorry Dex,I mistyped, its made by waterloo not beach.I didn't get a chance to go in today,I got sent on a service call out of town and didn't get back till 6,figured the manager would be gone by then and it'd be a waste of time.I may just repair it myself and sell it,I have a line on a snap on box, waiting for a final price from the seller.

They say it's only a year warranty, home depot says life.I'll find out more tommorow, have a safety meeting till about 2 o'clock I'll head up to home depot afterward and see if I can find a manager.I'm not going to put a whole lot of time into fighting with them,it's easier to just fix it myself. It just pisses me off that such a huge company can be so unorganized regarding something as simple as a warranty issue.

That box was made for Stanley. Ive got the same one in red. When I called for info on the side box I think the toll free # was for Stanley in CT. Look up the # online. They were very helpful in getting a matching sidebox after HD stopped carrying them. That box is made in the same factory in Canada that makes some of the Mac, Proto, Blackhawk, and Beach boxes. Ive had mine for 4 years now and so far its held up very well.

Just remember who used to run HD... CEO Robert Nardelli who is now running Chrysler. Call their " corporate customer service" 800# --- he outsourced their jobs to INDIA !

I like the rivet idea. The trick is to make it look like an improvement you made, which it will be. If you make a pattern and rivet every drawer that shouldn't keep someone from buying it and you will be selling a better box.

Should have spent 10G's on a SO box.

I bought my snap on box 16 yrs ago-It now sits in my barn behind the house.Wheel snapped of one day and since we have no dealers here anymore I bought the Husky as a fill in box till I could get the snappy fixed.Got fed up trying to get a warranty wheel so I welded up a frame work and mounted 4 nice casters on it and put it underneath.Rolls really good now, better than ever, but it's delegated to be a home box because it's too small.

The dents visible below the snap on emlem and above the cummins c are from when the wheel broke and the whole thing tipped over onto it's face:
