Well.....I finished my drill press stand.

Top is 1/8" plate with 2x2x1/4 legs.

The stand was cleaned up...sprayed with primer and then brush painted with oil based black.

Knowing the top is going to get scratched up....I made a 'cap' for it out of 16g stainless steel. It has a 1" lip around the sides so I don't have to worry about it sliding off or needing to screw it down. And the drill press slides across it a lot easier...but not so easy that it can slid off by accident.

The color I was going to use was a topic of discussion between OccupantRJ and I the last time I was in his shop. He is using a really nice blue for all of his stuff....and I was trying to figure out what color I should paint all my stuff.....

Well...garage walls are 3 different shades of gray.....but in reality....there is nothing I like more than a good looking lady in black tights and black high heels....so I figure those black legs on the drill press stand are the legs of the beautiful lady in red above it.

It is SO tempting to get my wife to put on something slinky with black tights and high heels and pose on top......SO tempting.....that might take a couple bottles of wine...

IMHO you should bolt that drill press to the stand, if you are pushing it across the shop and a rock blocks a wheel you may find the drill press on the floor or on your foot.

The stand looks very nice.

I also think that you should bolt the press to the stand for safety reasons!

The drill is a good story....I was spending some 'time' in Kenston, NC....another member there, OccupantRJ lives close by...I started hanging out at his shop...met a friend of his...saw his shop...commented on his Bridgeport...mentioned that I was looking for a table top drill press/vert mill....took me to his house and showed me this. Brand new....never used.

I got it for $150. Ok...so it's MIC...but the head is cast iron...whole thing weights almost 200lbs...I broke it down into sections and brought it back on the airplane....took 3 trips but didn't cost me anything.

Thanks RJ and Chris....I never realized how much I needed it.

Can you tell me more? I did a search on the internet and it looks like a lot of different stuff carries the Speedway name.....

The drill press is a little rough in a couple of areas....no, the table is not as smooth as a bridgeport.....but it does seem true and accurate.....the spindle seems strong enough to use for light milling work.

For $150....how cold I go wrong....

as Dark Age suggested - how about adding a shelf or two underneath especially if the stand is going to be dedicated to the drill press. Never waste space I always say. Looks great btw!

Homier Distrbuting is a direct importer like Harbor Freight they used to have retail stores in northern Indiana only one is left in Huntington the company's headquarters. The speedway line came about when the company sponsored a entry in the Indy 500.They also have a fleet of trucks that travel the country and set up tent sales of tools. Actually....that is already in the works....I'm making a SS shelf so I can store wood blocks and the drill press vice....drill bits...etc

In the front I'm going to make a hinged drawer to keep the chuck key in....maybe common drill bits.....what I would really like is a drill bit holder to hold my most common bits....maybe keep the common taps I use....

The front has the brace going across so I can hang c-clamps there.

The table is high...almost higher than I wanted...but...it seems pretty comfortable after all...with the casters on, the stand is 43" high....

As some of you may recall, I'm building a welding table....I have a 1"x24"x24" chunk of steel waiting for legs.....legs are cut...I just need to weld them on....next weeks project....

Once it's done...it will slide under the drill press stand for storage....

Black, red, and stainless. Can't go wrong with that combo of color, John. I also think it wise to bolt it down to prevent launch. Now you have to buy up a stock of red and black paint. I'm going to forward this thread to Chris.
