Never heard of Goodman, so I guess it would be Carrier..

I've had Carrier products before and they were pretty good..

All are subject to problems at times, but experience favors Carrier. That said, all manufacturers have different grades of equipment. I'd probably prefer a premium system from Goodman over a "builder grade" Carrier. Equipment is only a portion of the solution. The installer will have more affect on performance and longevity than the equipment manufacturer.

I believe Goodman purchased Amana heating products -- Goodman was always a value product.

Carrier's upper end products are very good -- variable speed blowers coupled with two speed A/C make for a very comfortable house . Great if you are in a high humidity area in the summer. Same for the modulation furnaces. Make sure you look into heap pumps -- the new ones are extremely good and very efficient -- even in low temperatures.

You don't even hear them running.

Whichever you buy, make sure you buy the highest efficiency unit you can afford. You only pay for a furnace once, but you pay for its inefficiency EVERY MONTH. (I seem to remember this is the SEER rating...but memory is foggy on this one).

The main brand I service and install is Goodman, amana it was said above that proper size and installation matters more than brand. We used to install carriers but stopped because they had so many problems with their secondary heat exchangers and replacement parts cost way more for carrier. Goodman uses a lot of parts that are made by Honeywell and white rogers, the companys that make the same parts for other brands carrier stuff is exclusive so higher cost. Carrier may have changed their design on the secondary hx but I'm not sure on that. Google carrier secondary and you will get a lot of info on the subject. 12-15 is the average life of any brand furnace annual maintenance and a 10 year parts and labor warranty are your friend.

Thank you!
I spent more years in the electrical/hvac/[plumbing /boiler trades fixing other peoples hack jobs than Id like to remember.
That being said one of my old customers is flying me out to northern California next week to install a goodman furnace and heat pump after I talked them out of the other choices they were considering which were trane/train wreck and Bryant.
