Want to thank you again for your hard work making this database, now that I have used it a little bit, and have edited the catagories, it is really an awesome way to keep track of tools, Im not sure yet why, but I am having a good time doing it.

Very nice program. Thankls for putting the effort into it. I just found it today, but can't wait to start loading the info into it. I have several catagoies of stuff I want to inventory so this will get a good workout.

Thanks. This is cool. Exactly like something I was looking for. Great for insurance purposes. When I get home I'm going to get to work on using it right away.

Keep, thanks to you and diogenes for putting this slick tool out there for all to use! I've downloaded the runtime version as I do not currently have Office 2007 on this computer.

I might suggest that everyone using this program get religious about scheduling a backup and burning a disc to keep safe somewhere, just in case of fire, flood, or some lowlife stealing your computer along with your other valuables.

Great program/DB. Thanks for the time and effort you put into it.

I recommend storing the data somewhere online, in "the cloud". I like to use Dropbox, because the data is on my local hard drive - but that drive gets synced to my account online.
Local = fast & always available
Online = permanent

For example, I create all my CAD drawings in my Dropbox folder so there's no lag when I'm drawing. When I go to the shop with the CNC tools, all the files come across the network (slowly) but I'm just opening them, so speed isn't a problem. I used to have "versioning" problems (which version is the current one?)

Dropbox is free for a couple GB of data. Just put the database, not the entire program, in your local folder.

If you're interested, clicking this link will give me more free space.

Mods, if a referral link like this is against the rule, please let me know and I'll edit it out. I searched, but didn't see a rule.

hmmm well there is an MS office for Mac. Cannot say I have ever tried it, though after a quick google search there seem to be ways to do it.

The less I have to do with MS, the happier I am! ;-) That's why I bought a Mac!

Very nice program! Thank you!

Is there a way to have full control over the program? I noticed that most tools are grayed out, and I would like to change a few things, like adding in other options for reports and changing the pictures to tools from my collection. I you can or would be willing to release that version, I and possibly others would be very grateful! Thanks again!

Thanks for this. Will be great having this as I'm just starting out so I will only have to add a few items at a time as I buy them.

I've downloaded the runtime version and love the program. I loaded the RT version 'cause I'm so cheap that my computers all have Acess '97 or 2000. Is there a way to use your program with those??? That would give me the flexibility to change some stuff.

While I can appreciate the work you did and your generosity for sahring it....

Anyone who undertakes this is taking time away from MUCH more important things - like actually working with those tools!!

(Kinda kidding, I guess once it's done it's done....)

Cheers!

get a copy of vmware fusion, and run a windows virtual machine w/ access. thats how I do it

You are missing the point. Many of us who use Macs go out of our way to AVOID Windoze like the plague. Not trying to start a war or anything, just pointing out that your solution is not acceptable to me or others that want to stay with the reliability and intuitive nature of the Mac.

There is a version of MS office for Mac - and I have it - but the Mac version does not include Access as that is a Win-only Application.

This looks like a great effort, and is much prettier than my spreadsheet. If it ever becomes possible to run it natively on a Mac, I am in!!!

This looks like a nice home inventory tool. Thanks for sharing it with the forum members.
Like MN4X4, I an a Mac-only user, but unlike him, I do have VMWare and Windows on my Mac, because I need it to run Visio. I loaded your application and tried it, and it runs fine on this configuration.
If I can make a suggestion for a future version:
You might consider a "location" field, or even Location & Sub-location.
Some of us keep things in multiple places, such as the garage, the truck, the boat/cabin/shop/work, etc., and being able to sort on the location would be a valuable thing in the event of a loss of a single location, like stolen truck, burned down shop, etc. As was asked above somewhere, the sub-location field could be used for what toolbox, cabinet, room, etc. something is kept in.

Thanks again.

No it will not run with anything under access 2007. The older versions do not support the split forms I used for the entry screens.

Actually if you go here: http://insurance-information-institute.software.informer.com/

You can get a home inventory system that lets you scan receipts, pictures, price, where it is at and so on and it is for free. I have it for mine and the first version was from the insurance institute and then the next time it was the same thing through the allstate site. Either way I have found it quite handy, but if you are starting from scratch it is quite a chore to go through everything in the house and garage and storage sheds.

I have been getting more and more requests for a 64 bit version of this. I finally broke down and created it.

I added the link to the first post, but here it is again.

http://www.netquickposse.org/files/ToolDatabase_x64.zip

This is an empty db, meaning all or most of the category lists are blank so you can add only the ones you like.

There were requests for a field for "Set part number" That is added to this version as well.

I know of only one person that has been hit with the 2GB db size limit of Access. He fix was to basically split out some categories into a separate db.

Have fun and remember to printout a full list once you complete it and give it to your Insurance company!

Thanks a lot for doing this. I have been looking for something just like this for awhile now. Has anyone tried to open the program with Access 2010 yet? Thats the version I have, but when I go to do the setup it says "Microsoft Office Access 2007 must be installed before running this installation program" Since 2010 is a newer version, shouldn't it be backward compatible? Thanks!

I should convert for Linux/Android, that way it can be kept on my smart phone too. But it will wait until after I get moved. Nice job!
