Any of you creative geniuses have good ideas for home made wheel chocks? I know you can cut a 4x4 on an angle for an instant wheel chock, but I was looking for something more creative. To make them non-slip, what kind of rubber material did you use?

Cut and weld two pieces of steel plate at a 90* angle, like so

You can join two together by welding a bar to it, and even making a handle.

I used to use an army shovel (old style with wooden handle) to keep my Ranger from moving. Just stick the blade under the tire. When done pull out by the handle.

Depending on what he is chocking, it might be hard to find angled iron that big.
I guess, anything could be too big for one solution or another. 3" and 4" angle is pretty common in my shop; that would be plenty for a small trailer or car in most cases.

With a block of wood and a band saw you should be able to make what you're asking for.

What is this for? Keeping a car secure for repair on smooth garage floor, chocking in the wild on surfaces that might be mud, rock, or slanted? Something that would work anywhere? Big lug tires, little tires, universal? One direction or more? Design problems might differ...

Take a 4X6 cut it on a 45* angle along the 6" face. Drill with a 1/2" bit on the opposite end from the angle. Put rope through hole and knot each end so it doesn't come through the hole.

Voila, easy to sling in, easy to pull back out.
If you are concerned about slipping you could put some grip-tape on the bottom, or glue on some rubber matting/etc.

There yougo. I was gonna say a triangle piece of wood is probably the easiest thing to make.

I just use bricks since they tend to dig into the rough brush finish on my driveway. Or sometimes the front tires of the car if I happen to need to take them off.

I've got a couple foot-long chunks of 6x6 pressure treated lumber left over from some yard projects. I got a cheap cabinet drawer handle, screwed it to the end, and can quickly carry, place or remove the chock by said handle. The handle I used was a little wider than the 6x6 wood, so I mounted it diagonally.

When not in use, they store in a wooden box I made in my shop--the box is about 2x2, open on one side, has casters on the bottom, and all my wood blocks and cribbing store in it on their sides for easy access.

This is for normal vehicles <4500lbs. Garage floor or asphalt driveway.
I like that Navy design. Thanks for the idea. Could make it out of wood or metal.
I've got really old aircraft wooden chocks and they pretty much ****.

I've considered the HF rubber ones. I'm sure the way they smell, the cat will probably pee on them. I think some scrap lumber and a length of electrical conduit would make the Navy style chocks.

I made a set for my 2 axel trailer out of a 14 inch car rim by cutting it in half and placing it between the tires.I put a chain on mine so its easy to put between the tires .............YG
