I would really like to replace my home security system with something more modern and capable of integrating into home automation. It needs to support a cellular connection as I don't have landline phone or hi speed internet available.

I would prefer a system that is capable of wired and wireless sensor inputs, I've done a lot of remodeling to the house and some of the exterior doors do not have wired access to them any more. However, I do have many sensors that are still wired and should work fine - smoke alarms, windows, etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I would like to install some home automation at the same time. Nothing radical, just thermostats and some light control.

One caveat, I can't utilize a hi-bandwidth online camera / video system as my only internet connection is cellular. Central station monitoring is a must - I'm open to suggestions on that service as well - who you use and what it costs?

Alarm, monitored, self monitored, Z-wave compatible, DIY. It will do it all and with tons of youtube videos available there's no reason to go anywhere else.

My first thoughts are to go with Z Wave

I have an older system a lot of devices are over 8 years old, but I recently upgraded to HomeSeer's Software - HS3

With Z wave, you need some sort of 'controller' and most of them - smart things, etc are cloud based. With HS3 the software runs on a computer at your location

Don't choke on their prices. They have a 50% off sale twice a year and I picked up their basic HS3 for $125

It looks like they have a plugin for some hardwired alarm panels (DSC MaxSys and Power Series security panels)

I recently purchased a battery operated door sensor - and have been very pleased with the results. I am still playing around with things but I would like to eventually have a door sensor or motion sensor turn on various interior/exterior lights when activated
