Homelink & Overhead Door Co. Openers

We moved into a new construction home last October, and it had pre-installed garage door openers. They're labeled as being Overhead Door Company, but the equipment looks like other brands I've seen like Wayne Dalton & Genie.

Anyhow, I've tried programming Homelink with three separate vehicles. The first time, I got my Maxima to work. Second time, I got the Murano to work, but the Maxima quit working. Third time, I got our Odyssey to work, but then the Murano wouldn't work. So it seems as if my openers will only work with one Homelink unit at a time. Is this a common problem? We've since sold the Maxima, but it'd be nice to have two vehicles programmed simultaneously.

You apparently have rolling code openers and I'm not sure if all the homelink units will do rolling codes or not, but I think they might.

Programming is slightly different, I think you have to push a button on the opener itself to reset the rolling codes or something like that.

I followed the directions in the manuals for both the Murano and Odyssey when programming each, and yes, I do have rolling codes, so yes, I do have to push a "learn" key on the opener itself. Did this on all occasions. Not quite sure what's going on.

They are a royal pain - call the 800 for the Genie Co they will walk you thru it - (Overhead Door Corporation owns the Genie Co)

Mine was a pain (Liftmaster rolling code). We moved in our new construction home in October 2010. Initially got my wife's Lexus IS 250 programmed. My Father in Law had to great idea to program his Lexus thus wiping out my wife's and all of our openers (little pissy when I got off work and off my motor and had to open the door with the code). I could never could get it to re connect with my wife's but the other openers worked. So I gave up after much swearing and told the wife to get used to the opener.

Well fast forward to two months ago I became determined to link her homelink to the garage door. Took about 5 minutes and it synced. No clue why but it worked.

I will agree with you it's a PITA and takes Voodoo to make it work.

I just did a set the other day...

What I did was this:

1. Programmed the Homelink to the remote. (Press button on mirror, hold, then press button on remote)
2. Programmed the opener to the Homelink.

Worked fine, I have rolling code features.

It really sounds to me what you are doing is the 'delete existing remotes' function when you program the openers. You should only do that once when you first setup the remotes.

So when you delete the existing remotes, is that supposed to make the branded remotes that came with the units stop working, or is that only for remotes that I had to push the "learn" button to program? If the branded remotes are independent of the learning function, then you're probably exactly right. If not, then I still don't really know what could be happening. I'll try again this evening.

I have 3 of the Overhead Door Legacy rolling code openers. My suggestion is this:

remove all remotes from opener's knowledge
program remotes that came w/opener
use these remotes to program homelink, then enable the opener to learn the homelink

AFAIK, all remotes! The reason is that if your factory remote is lost or stolen you don't want it to work anymore. My Sears openers delete everything. I'm still trying to find out the maximum number of remotes supported, too! Right now I have six remotes, two keypads, and two Homelink vehicles.

Tried again with the same results.

1. Pushed the learn button on opener.
2. Pushed the Murano mirror button 3 times. Door opened.
3. Pushed mirror button in Odyssey. Nothing.
4. Pushed learn button on opener.
5. Pushed Odyssey mirror button 3 times. Door opened.
6. Pushed Murano mirror button. Nothing.
7. Pushed remote button that came with opener. Door opened.

It's like the Odyssey and Murano can't be on it at the same time. Still confused. I guess I'll RTFM for the opener.

Manual says that you can program up to 7 devices per opener. Somehow, I must have hit that. Going to try clearing the memory, as suggested.

For reference, this is an Overhead Door legacy 800 model 2026 chain drive.

Ah, maybe that answers my question! I'm really close to that magic seven however. I wonder... Since I'm actually over seven now that I think about it!
