This is my latest homemade brake press. It's not completely finished yet, but the mechanics are done.

Impressive looking, medieval. I'm scratching my head how the linkage works though. Was the curved part at the top right a later addition? I'm guessing you started with the cylinder between the levers/cams?

This is being built entirely out of scrap steel laying around my shop. I started by taking an inventory of what i had to wwork with. I knew that the heavy beam would be used for the leverage arms and that the 3/8" plates would be used for the sides of the body. Then with the basic concept in mind, I started building. The curved arm at the top was because of what I had to work with, and seemed like it would be strong. Visually I think it looks awesome, as well as proving to be quite strong, so I'll carry that theme to other places that need reinforcement. I don't have enough large sheets of plate to laminate sections to be really thick in areas, so I have to be creative with grids as reinforcements.

Thanks! My mission over the last couple of years has been focused on building all of my equipment mysel, all out of scrap laying around the shop. In some of my other posts on GJ you can see some of my other homemade stuff. I built a smaller press brake last year that I shared to the forum.

I can't a video to uupload, but I do have a video on my Facebook page for anyone interested in seeing it work. If you go to my Columbus Mobile-Welding Facebook page, then go to my profile "David Stewart", you'll be able to the brake plus tons of other cool projects. I always come to GJ first to highlight bigger projects, but my FB page has a lot of cool homemade stuff I've done.
