Recently built this from junk.

There's not much on the internet of people testing these things to the tipping point. I've got some numbers and weights in this thread.

Skid steer is a New Holland LS185.B
78 hp
7100 lbs
rated to 2500 lbs lift
tips at 5000 lbs
breakout 7500 lbs

Quick attach plate is 3/16 reinforced with 2x2x1/4 angle iron. First tube is about 5 inch mechanical round tubing, 1/4 inch wall. Second tube is 3x3x1/4 HSS which telescopes inside perfectly.

Angle iron gussets are 3x3x3/8.

These pieces were salvaged from a bridge crane.

Added a 2 inch receiver to the second piece and made a final extension from 2x2x1/4 HSS. 3/4 inch shoulder bolt at the tip (welded nut to bolt so it rotates but cannot come off).

Slotted for sheave.

Measuring 10 1/2 feet from skid steer front wheel hub to the truck hitch I am able to lift truck off the ground. Truck is an 04 f150 screw 4x4 and I'd guess that I'm lifting around 2500 lbs here.

Almost lifting rear skid steer tires here. Proves boom is stronger than skid steer.

At full extension I'm almost at 20 feet in front of quick attach plate. Here I'm lifting a 375 lbs core of concrete. Full speed and quick stop and I cannot get rear wheels off ground, not unstable at all.

Full lift height with boom raised and jib vertical is 30 feet.

Sheave in center of tubing allows for horizontal to vertical lift without rope binding on anything.

Setting snowblower on 16 foot high flat roof for winter.

Putting trailer in fenced yard.

Changing engine oil on atv without bending over or laying on my back.

very impressive.

What would a commercial one cost? what do you think you have into this in materials and time?

No idea on new one cost other than I couldn't afford one.

Spent a few weekends on it. Other than consumables like rods and zip disks and electriity this thing cost me $15 CDN for a galllon of mismatch tremclad paint. Steel was all salvaged junk.

I already had the hitch mount winch for my ice shack trailer.

Nice job bud. I built one one for my skid steer out of a stick of 4” rigid with fork receivers so I could just slide my pallet forks into it. The most weight I’ve ever tried out was a tick over 500lbs and there wasn’t even the slightest hint of flex.

Looks like a great design, very versatile with the telescoping boom!

I think if you had to lift the bed off a truck or pull an engine you'd know where to go :)

I need a ls190 to use mine to full poterntial

Has hydraulic telescope, hydraulic tilt and an 8k winch

I lock out my tilt function when lifting heavy with chains set to the front handles on the new holland and use the booms own tilt cyclinder to control it

You will also notice mine has a “foot built into it”. So for heavy lifting at not a big height where I dont have to move the skid steer I set the boom on the ground and use only the boom controls for tilt, extension and winch. This effectively lengthens my skidsteer wheelbase and counterweight situation.

Muckin-- Nice work on the boom. I do like the addition of the electric winch.

I had a "Teleboom" for awhile that I used on my New Holland LS150. That boom proved to be more than the LS150 could handle so I sold it. I bought it used for about $1200 and sold it for the same amount. It was similar in design, but used some larger tubes and had a hydraulic slide out boom system. It was nice, but too heavy for my machine....

Almost as helpful as the sticker on the tailgate of that truck. If only I could be as joyful as this guy. I guess you think it's cool, eh?

I honestly did not read nor try to read what was on his tailgate. Looking at it now, if it says what I now think it does, no it is not cool. In fact quite vulgar. No sir, not cool.

Very cool design. I can see that working very well for many things. I like the swiss army approach. Fit as many options as you can on it and still have it operate all of them well.
