First off, has anyone ever seen these before? There is no branding and they almost seem to be homemade. The stamp marks are slightly irregular and the finishing of some parts looks to be a little rough- it’s like lathe marks are still visible. They were with some other old sockets from the 60’s-80’s.

Second, have any of IMG_0130.jpgIMG_0129.jpgIMG_0128.jpgyou guys ever made your own sockets before?

Here they are, the 1/4" drive I have were given two knurling strips and were clearly marked. Maybe those are some type of Japanese manufactured sockets? Heck, I think back in the day K-Mart even sold house brand Japanese-made socket sets. I'm stumped. 20210217_171220.jpeg20210217_171107.jpeg20210217_171119.jpeg

I have made sockets before, out of pieces of steel for wheel bearing retaining nuts, when I was young. I’ve also used sockets to make other tools, and I have made pullers before. When you are young, poor (I worked for $90 a week in the 1970s!), and inventive, you can do a lot. I used to claim to be able to do more with less than anyone I knew! Also, as I gravitated to working on antiques, I frequently made special tools, but bought the real deal as I found it, so now have a pretty decent collection of old tools with very little use: Herbrand, Bonney, Blue Point, Plomb, Miller, and other esoteric tools. But, yes, I have made sockets.
