Honda GX200 main jet screwdriver

I have a GENUINE Honda GX200 with a GENUINE Keihin carburetor that I need to do a thorough cleaning on. I have B&S 19061 and 19062 hollow ground "jet" screwdrivers.

Neither one will engage the slot main in the main jet !

What do you use to remove the main jet ?

This may help explain it (photo below) as the screwdriver has to be narrow.

I assume the 19061 Driver isn't long enough?

I don't have any carb specific screwdrivers, just one fairly narrow one with a flat blade that is "medium" long. These jets can attach themselves very well, especially with gas over the years. But I think that jet is just a slot for a flat blade... At least it was on my other honda's.

Snap-on has two screwdrivers that are perfect for that. Between the two of them they will work on all carburetors.

I just took apart my son's Keihin FCR have it soaking in Berrymans carb cleaner. Jets came out with Snap on SSDE64B no problem. It's the larger one of the two pictured below.

You need an ultrasonic cleaner so you don't have to take any jets out. :)

Find a hollow ground bit that is .031" thick by .187" wide.

If you can find one that's longer than the standard 1 inch length, that would be even better.

The reason I say that is because the 1 inch bit barely reaches the jet before the bit holder touches the carb body.

I just rebuilt my son's carb yesterday. Completely disassembled, including jets, and soaked in carb cleaner followed by ultrasonic. I think its pretty standard practice to pull the jets even with ultrasonic cleaner.

I solved this problem using a a slightly too thick slotted hollow ground bit which I got to fit perfectly for Quadrajet jets using a belt file. The belt file wheel fitted the factory hollow grind perfectly and with minimal grinding I had the perfect fit for the jets.

How about a gunsmithing hollow ground 1/4” bit?

I have the complete set of magnatip brownells bits and one would fit it.

Also wheeler and grace makes sets as well

Garage sales, barn sales, flea markets, all the places to shop for screwdrivers to be modified into whatever I need it for.
Paint can opening, chipping away at something when I don't feel like rummaging around for the better/right tool, or customizing to fit a carb jet. On & on.

They can be difficult because of the odd size. You can grind a too wide blade down a bit, the blade thickness if the most critical aspect. If the jet is super tight/corroded, try tightening first before the soft ears start breaking off trying to loosen. Be sure to take the fuel screw out as well. Use heat to soften the "glue" that holds that limiter cap on. If you just pry on it you will break the screw off, then the REAL fun starts. See the "waist" in the pic. It is below the recessed area of carb and is hard to get a L/H drill bit on. I work on these all the time over the last 10 years.

Not for the main, but for the fuel screw limiter cap. It isn't a carb clean if you don't remove the fuel screw. And don't fall for the gotta have an ultrasonic cleaner ****. Sure, they are great but they are not a substitute for complete disassembly. Proper carb cleaning was around long before ultrasonic cleaners.
How crappy was the float bowl?

The bit inserts are hardened and won't deform like a actual screwdriver, and come in extended lengths for those hard to reach areas.

Good point on the heat treated inserts. I have several that I never use in a power driver anyway but will be a fine use for that purpose by lightly and slowly OD grinding them in the metal lathe If I don’t happen to have the correct diameter on hand.

In the pic 5/6 is the fuel screw (6 comes w/ limiter cap), 12 is the plastic idle screw that holds 36 plastic pilot jet.
If the float bowl was clean and you cant get main out you could try just blowing some carb cleaner through the jet and into carb throat. If problem is poor idle, problem is likely in the pilot jet circuit (that plastic jet and fuel screw)

That is the first time I have seen a Honda/Keihin, or any relatively modern clone, with a FUEL SCREW !

The primary/low speed jet (#36) obviously controls the primary fuel flow. The main/secondary jet (#35?) controls off idle fuel. NO ADJUSTMENTS !
