A coworker have a Honda snowthrower, HS520A. He had it for 3 or 4 years. Just got it tuned up. It is in very good condition. He wants to sell it to me. What is a fair price? I want it to be fair for both of us and we have no idea what the price should be.

When economic times were good, we would have picked a price with no concern of too much or too little toward either side. Now, both of us are in no position to throw a bit of money away.

If its in really good condition 200-250. If the wear parts were replaced in the "tune-up" [scraper, belt and paddles] then as high as $300. I wouldnt go higher as thats one of the few Hondas the big box stores peddle and occasionally you can wander in and find a new return heavily discounted.

Check the auger - make sure it's not bent.

More importantly, how will you be using this ? Just wanted to make sure you thought out 1 vs 2 stage.

I have both a single stage and 2 stage. If you're looking to use this for EOD stuff - either alot of multiple passes & or it won't the snuff to break things up or throw...

You can dance with the single stage and I use my HS621 alot, but there are times where 2 stager is definately required. Just some food for thought

Depends where u are and if there is snow on the ground. 2 years ago I sold a Honda hs622 track drive machine for $1300 cdn or there abouts. I bought it in sept 2000 for $1399 plus 15% sales tax. Got 9 years out of it. I was able to get that much because A) it was still a current model, and B) with inflation the same model was selling for $1799 Mrsp no discount

I turned around and bought a used hs1134? Big @ss Honda 34" cut and hydrostatic drive for about $2200. I was happy again because the same model at the dealer was $3999. It was running rough so I learned to dismantle the carb and clean it, and the one auger was rustwelded to the ******. Got it fixed with heat and wd40 and grunting.

I would think market value for a 3-4 yr old used Honda would be about 20-30% off msrp if in good condition. Probably closer to 25% off now as it's still warm, but moving closer to 15% when the frost hits

Yes, the 2 stagers maintain their value very well ...
Not the single stagers IMO. Toro has better refinement on the single stagers at this current day.

FWIW, and this is what I did from brand new - remove the augers off and grease the hub. There are no zerks on the Red Machine Augers and there is very little grease on them coming off the factory...Once seized, it's not fun to remove them...but I'm sure you know that

Gotta love that hydrostatic drive. Wish it was not such a bear to move when not on though
