Hook & Pick Set Storage Options in Tool Cart Drawer?

I'm looking at some interesting tool cart storage organizers like some from Ernst for screwdrivers but nothing seems like it will work well for hook and pick set tools. Similar in shape to a screwdriver but the Ernst organizers seem to require that you slide the screwdriver shaft in, which the hooked picks won't be able to do since they are curved on the end.

Any ideas on how to keep these nice and stored within a drawer?

Bee bop over to your local Target/WaLMart/Staples/OfficeMax etc and see what they have to offer in drawer organizers in the office & Housewares departments. You can usually find a low profile tray that will work nicely but, has a small footprint.

use two cheapo steel 1/4" socket holders and put them in between so they don't roll. 3 for the long ones if you feel like it. You can get away with just 1 really, but they still want to try to roll so it parallelograms.

It depends on which picks you have, Gearwrench come in tray but the tray is huge.

I was thinking about it myself, kaizen foam or custom make a wood holder that is designed to hold onto the thinner shaft. I haven't really got around to it myself because I've found that marking the most used ones with heatshrink on the shaft has made it a lot easier to grab what I want. With the Ullmans, they're really thin so any organizer will take up a lot more space. Right now the GW are in the tray.

I don’t have the Ernst screwwdriver rack, but from the pics on the interwebz it looks like they just lay on a groove and don’t need to be slid in. Maybe there are different types.

How about a magnetic bar? Some folks put a few on the lid of their tool cart to hold stuff, could use one to keep the picks there since it’s quicker to grab from the open lid instead of having to open a drawer then grab. That’d work good for the Ullmans.

I’ve got the Mayhews and their handles are squared so that keeps them from rolling around in a drawer. :dunno:

What picks do you have/use? Pics of said picks? :eyecrazy:

The cheapo HF set came in crappy blow molded tray. The are still in that tray in the drawer. Take a steel bar, put a magnet behind it and put it all in a shallow tray or box. The picks will stick to the bar. You can buy flexible magnet in lengths but I don't think they are very strong.

Why not just get a small plastic bin and toss them in it. Keeps them from rolling around and very inexpensive. Or could make one out of some thin wood.
