Hoosier Drill help

I know, technically not really a tool, but it is vintage.

I found this end plate off of an old grain drill in a junk pile on the farm. I think it would make a great wall hanger, cleaned and repainted. I'm just not sure how to go about it.

Whats the best way to remove the rust scales? Anyone know what the original colors were?

That's from a seed drill, for planting cane hay, etc. I walked behind one of those for hours on end when I was a young 'un, using my big feet to stomp on weeds and clear them from the planting shoes. That said, I'd put it into a ****** tank. That's an electrolysis tank for rust removal that you can made yourself from a small 6 amp voltage transformer and a bridge rectifier and some wires and clamps.

Feed grade molasses diluted 10:1 with water. Throw it in, cover to prevent water from evaporsting and come back in a week. I suggest if it is at all dirty or greasy you hit it with some spray dedreaser, like brake cleaner before dumping it in the molasses solution. This is a slower, cheaper DIY version of Evaporust, that can get a little expensive in quantity. It can be found at Tractor supply. Take it out once in a while and knock the loose stuff off with a wire brush. The chemical process is different but vinegar or phosphoric acid work too. Phosphoric acid is the active ingredient in Naval Jelly, another thing you can use. Electrolysis, mentioned above, is another way to go but there is a bit more to it. There is plenty of info on line
