I've been trying to figure out a way to store a couple of bikes overhead without having to worry about banging my head on them. If I use the typical pulley-type system, the tires will hang down into prime head-banging territory.
I've found a couple of horizontal bike hoists that look promising, but I need to do some more measuring when I get home.

This one looks awesome, but it doesn't list a price. They're out of stock on their own website and on Amazon, but it says more stock will be available tomorrow, 3/27/13. I'm thinking that I could get most of the bike above the garage door with only the handlebars hanging down below the door on the back side when the door is up.
The second solution I found was BikeRaxx. http://www.bikeraxx.com/collections/bikeraxx-collections
This one accomplishes the same thing but takes up more room than the floaterhoist.
Anybody have anything like these? Anyone done any DIY similar?
