Horizontal File Cabinets

I have picked up a few horizontal 4 drawer filing cabinets from my company that were going to be tossed out. I am trying to figure out what I could use them for in the garage. Because each drawer is so deep they really aren't good for tool storage but I thought I could use them for storage of cans and bottles of chemicals (oil, cleaners, paint, etc) since I do not have a dedicated cabinet for these things now. Can anyone see any issues in that or possible any other uses.

the medical files are the best. they have the flip up doors and tray that slides out.
you know how much paper weighs.... they will hold a ton of tools. i have a couple of them loaded and they do not wobble one bit. i bet there is a couple hundred pounds in each drawer of one containing scrap steel and aluminum

Chemicals, power tools and extension cords. Then the infamous "misc junk" drawer.

You could use one drawer with actual files folders to hold sandpaper. Seems like I am always digging around for the right grit.

One drawer for service manuals and instruction sheets...Your wife may want that stuff cleared off her coffee table..

jugs of oil, oil and air filters, power tools, cleaning supplies, tools that come in blow-molded cases, paint cans, shop rags, rolled up extension cords, spare lite bulbs,

Here are mine. I use them to store shop manuals, tools and tool sets that have bulky cases, chemicals, and spare parts.

I have some mad scientist projects going on with these old struts, I'm hoarding them for later.

Lots of good ideas here, I use one for portable power tools, and have used one for gallon cans of kerosene, and the like. If you do use it for chemicals, look at a cab made for the job (those yellow ones) for venting ideas.

I like the service manual idea, but that one might be better suited for the medical type cabs.

Most of my shop manuals are in a high shelf I made for the purpose in my workroom; the ceiling is only @ 7' or so, and so they are in reach.

ive got a couple sections of mine slap full of screws nuts and bolts. another with plastic containers that i actually use all the time, easily accessible. ill have to snag some pics. picked them up at an auction for 10 a piece. they are 5 drawer. i also picked up a single, which i have set on top of a metal cabinet. those metal cabinets are more gold than the filing cabinets. i need another single or 2 drawer to set on top of my other cabinet. they are great catch alls.
