Horrible Experience with Floor Junkies

I just joined this forum to express my horrible experience with Floor Junkies floor tiles and customer service. Five years ago I installed the blue coin Floor Junkies tiles in my garage. They looked great. After a few years the color faded and didn't look very good, even in areas of the garage that get no sun. Then, I spilled some oil on them (about 4 quarts) and over a 4 week period they all curled up on the corners and wouldn't lay flat anymore. You would think "garage" tiles should hold up to some oil. I call Max at Floor Junkies, gave him the date I bought them off ebay and he said if I don't have original receipt he won't do anything. So, ok, most good companies now have a record of purchase but my bad. I decided to just buy the 100 tiles I needed to repair the defective tiles. Guess what, the new tiles don't work with the old tiles. Max tells me I need to replace my whole 3 car garage. Needless to say, I will never be doing business with Floor Junkies again. **** product and **** customer service.

Floor Junkies website states it is a Houston, TX based company, selling their own American made floor tiles. Some products have a 12 year warranty against fading. They claim to have sold 2.5 million sq feet of tile since 2006.

Instead of bashing an American company here, maybe you should have a discussion with Marvin, the online manager, and work out the issue like gentlemen. All this information is on their website.

BTW, I am not affiliated with the company or product. I am an American small business owner who is happy you are not a customer.

"...like gentlemen." Does this imply that Chad is not a gentleman? I bought something from an online retailer through Amazon and when it failed they couldn't find the transaction. I contacted the manufacturer and gave them the info right off my Amazon acc't. I got nothing and wasted $160. Yes, I got on the forums and blasted this outfit.

I'm over it now but I won't ever do business with them.

Yeah, we may or may not have the full story, though it seems to be rather simple. I, too, try to support US companies. However, regardless of a company's domicile and where their product is manufactured, a good company, in my terms, makes a real attempt to help a customer out with a problem like this. Just think, if they'd jumped on this guy's problem and gone that extra mile, he'd be loving them and telling everyone so. Compare his experience [at least as he is telling it] with how the "regular" flooring guys who frequent this forum handle such issues and it is night and day.

I go out of my way to buy american. I will go out of my way to avoid dealing with a company that doesn't understand customer service.

When those two things are in conflict, I will pick american providing their quality is truely superior. My opinion is: True quality needs far less customer service.

Sounds like a problem with quality here.

 Well said as are many of the other comments. I think it is very important to buy American. I think it is very important to service your customers and I also think it is important to take some personal responsibility for our actions.

Here is what I can tell you from my perspective..... I have easy quick access to about two years worth of customer records. After that, because of the limits of small business accounting software it gets more complicated. Obviously I keep all records longer than that for tax purposes but it is not as simple as a quick look up. Whose responsibility and for how long is it to keep a copy of the receipt?

I personally would have a hard time considering leaving four quarts of oil for four weeks on a floor a warranty issue. In 13 years I have never been called about a situation like that. If I was, we always try and help the customer but it would be as a customer service and would probably have some expense to the customer. Modutile appears to be the brand name that was purchased and their warranty has more than a few disclaimers http://www.modutile.com/modutile-terms-conditions.html I am guessing they are the same company.

In short, I think the suggestion to contact the manager and work it out is a good one. I think this issue is firmly in the gray area.

Whoa...he spilled four quarts of oil and left it there for 4 weeks? :scared:

At any rate he put plastic tiles on the floor, and he had 4 quarts of oil in the same room. That's a disaster waiting to happen. Got what he paid for.

Does the warranty even cover clumsiness?

I don't think it reads that way. Within 4 weeks the floor curled. Obviously he didn't clean it up very well. He goes on the say that he bought replacements. That tells me he has accepted his culpability. The fact that the company didn't inform him of the design change sums this up for me.

1. Companies do redesign/re-engineer their products. That is the way products get better over time.

2. The original post doesn't say how old the tiles are (not when they were bought from eBay (5 years), since they may have been sitting for some time before sold) or when the design change was made.

No argument about progress, Peter, but when a product becomes obsolete, the company should declare that. If the OP was buying replacements after unsuccessfully trying to get a warranty, the company added to his grief by supplying him with unsuitable product upon which, I assume, they made a profit.

I'm sorry, but that's enough for me to never do business with Junkies.

What I don't get are the people who join the forum, make their first post to complain about some company that, (as far as I know has no sponsorship over this site), and then take off never to be heard from again...

Zeke, I understand what you are saying, but it is still not clear the actual age of the original tiles, when the change was made, or any other details.

The fact he bought on eBay hints that perhaps he was buying product that was being clearanced because of the production/engineering change.

We'll probably never know the true details of what happened, I bet even the OP may not know them. For example, did they offer a return on the unusable product?

Well it has been 12 hours since his post....

But I do agree there are questions that need to be answered.

I hate when companies claim a huge warranty, but then change the engineering so the new parts aren't compatible. Forced replacement...

Sounds like he bought from their ebay store, not some random seller. No word on if they were as it or not though.

They changed their product line from the poor quality product they sold me to a new "American made" product. I bash when I don't get treated right by a company and I would think others would appreciate this information. I did have the discussion with Marvin and the solution is to return the new stock I bought to replace the defective tiles (with a 25% restocking fee of course). If facts sound like bashing to you so be it. I don't think you would be too happy investing $1,400 in a garage floor and basically have a company not stand behind the product. Of course, business owners with a history of poor customer service wouldn't want their customers to talk.

I bought the tiles from Floor Junkies on ebay back in 2008. The tiles don't even resemble the orginal color and all curled after getting oil on them. I cleaned the oil right away with Tide above and below the tiles.

You bought the original tiles in 2008 on eBay.
You had a failure due to an oil spill.
You couldn't provide proof of purchase.
They sold you new tiles in 2014.
The old 2008 tiles don't interchange with the new 2014 tiles.

Did you tell them you bought them 6 years ago on eBay or leave that out hoping for a warranty replacement?

any pics?

I had a few new tiles that I saved and installed from my original purchase. Just look at the fading and this is in the center of my garage, not the ends where it gets some morning sun if the doors are open. You can see how these tiles curled up and won't lay flat. Modutile is the same company as Floor Junkies.
