Horseshoe pumpkin for Halloween

IDK about you guys, but most of the ladies in my family like crafty stuff which usually means I get to build something. I really don't mind because it is a justification for my tool habit.

This time it was my mother. She had come to visit to help watch the toddler as his school was on Fall break. She sees one of these on Facebook or something and asks if I can make one. Of course I can, since I still have a bunch of shoes left from the last horseshoe project she wanted. (Mom grew up on a farm in west Texas and still has horses today).

Enough of the backstory - here's photos of how I built it. The welds are ugly as I didn't knock the dirt or rust off the shoes. That and my welds are usually rough compared to most of the guys on this board. Oh, and the welding table is on my to do list.

All done. I made two. One left handed, one right. The wife asked how much I could sell them for. Not enough to make it worth my time, but many people are selling them. eBay has them for $40 - $50

That's cool. Just a thought, but what if you laced the holes in the horseshoe with wire to give it a more enclosed look?

No I have not tried the candle. Only made two and they sold at local horse farm before I could try. I sold them without candles to be safe. Now I gotta make some more.

I started with a second had Century. I don't remember what I paid for it, but it might have been $200 brand new. Very inexpensive 110 volt flux core. The duty cycle was frustrating, but it was a good starter welder. For thick projects like bumpers, I would tack them together then take to a shop. Saved a ton vs. having them do all the work.

I'm making a few more . I sold two painted for $50.00 each. Nice project and I have some free shoes from a farrier too.
