Hose between compressor and hardlines Updated w/pix

Hi, I'm new to the board but I expect to be posting a lot in the future. I ran hardlines through my garage this weekend :bounce: I'll post pix soon. My question is about the flexible hose between the compressor and the lines. I want to use 1/2" ID hose but only need about 1'-2'. All the sites I find through Google have 50' or 100'. I'd also prefer the stainless jacket as I've seen other members are using. Where can I find a 2' 1/2" ID stainless jacketed hose? I also was wondering if it's advisable to add a shutoff valve between the compressor and the lines? I don't plan on moving the compressor as it's 80 gallons and basically fixed in place.

I believe that this was discussed fully in a thread regarding compressor filters. Lot's of pictures on installation and what to use. Try using the search feature

Yep hydraulic hose works best, it can handle the heat and the pressure... Go to an ag dealer, or some auto parts stores make them. Make sure you tell them to use npt.

Although it's not stainless braided, I just bought a 25' length of 1/2" hose and cut it to fit, inserting ends where needed. I ended up using pieces at the end of hard lines to connect hose reels and dryers - made it easy and worked well.

Yea regular hose works great, except when you are close to the compressor. I've had a hose break on me from the heat.....

A corrugated copper line used to install a water heater works very well in my garage.

Thanks for all the responses. I ran out to the local auto/truck parts store over lunch and they made me up a 1.5' piece of 1/2 hose. Best part is they only charged $13.86. I should be able to finish the system and pressure test tonight.

I have made several two foot long hydraulic hose assemblies for just this application. I have had people request they be made from the teflon tube/stainless overbraid hose but I think it might cause fisheye problems with paint work at a later date. If you aren't going to be using the compressor for paint guns, the SS overbraid stuff looks nice if it is in a visible location.

The guy used a Goodyear hydraulic hose that has a very attractive black braided fabric cover. Only thing was that he put on two male ends (I didn't specify what I wanted). I didn't think about it until I got back to work but now I need to add a union to attach it. No big deal. I'm really pleased.
