What do you use? I'd like a dedicated cutter for rubber fuel lines, garden hoses and similar. I have made due with a large pair of dykes but would like to make cleaner cuts.

I bought a Craftsman one several years ago. The only thing I have found that makes a reasonably square cut on hoses.

Im not sure how well they would do on a garden hose, but for fuel line, air lines , etc ive been using a pair of Ideal coaxial cable cutters. I originally didnt know what they were actually intended for, i inherited them from a coworker in a dept i used to work in and thats what everyone used to cut all of the sizes of air line, ( primarily pneumatic industrial equipment manufacturing dept). leaves a nice, straight edge and are cheap

These are supposed to be for PVC, but I found they work terrific for just about any hose or tube, including fuel hose or clear vinyl tubing. I think I paid about $10 for them too.....I've also used them on radiator hoses. They leave a clean straight edge and don't crush the hose either....

Ouch! Chevron blade like the Milwaukee but at twice the price ($50 vs $25). I was thinking the BP might have much greater capacity but 1.125" vs 1", so not a lot.

Yep, I agree. I'd go Red if buying new. I picked my BP ones up on GJ classifieds for like 10 bux. But come to think of it, the BP handles open HUGE, and even I have to stretch my hands/fingers to grip it at full open. And I have big hands. The Milwaukees look much better on the handle angle. And they just plain look better.

I use Channellock 911 cable cutters for every flexible hose that is garden hose size and smaller. I have ratcheting PVC type cutters too, but I grab my Channellocks the majority of the time because they are faster and less fidgety to use. I use them to cut natural and synthetic rope too.

Exactly what I use and would recommend. Much cleaner cuts than sawing through with a razor blade.

+1 for these. I'm sure the COO is China but they work very well.

This looks like a winner. Can you cut pvc with it as well?

No, you need something with the force and leverage of a ratcheting mechanism to cut PVC. I use my ratcheting PVC cutters quite often, but very rarely for cutting PVC. I prefer using a Ridgid quick-acting tubing cutter with a larger diameter PVC cutting wheel. You end up with a nice clean cut at a perfect right angle every time doing it that way.

I've got the Mac rebranded one and it is really nice, I would try to find the original to save money.

Like this one, but from HF. Works pretty well.

Blue Point YA100A, made by someone else...real good. Replaceable blade too. I like how the V shape will dig in and center the hose rather than a full flat blade squishing it.

I have a similar cutter from Mac I got about 20 years ago. Used commercially for most of that time and still the original blade. The sharp vee prevents crushing and gives a perfect cut every time. Originally used it for air brake lines and coolant hose but more recently for pex.

That does look like it would work quite well for smaller diameter stuff. I do however think it is a little shady how Sears happened to mount a razor blade with "made in the USA" prominently stamped on it on the "made in China" tool for the website listing pictures.

Those actually work quite well, i've got three different styles that use the replaceable razor blades. they were all yardsale/flea market finds that Sears warranted for new. one has a plastic anvil the blade hits against and makes really nice straight cuts. will do up to 1.5" hose, and cuts ribbon wire, etc.

I have used various types of PVC cutters, and before I got those, a utility knife or razor blade knife. I suspect a large manual cable cutter would work too.

I don't know who makes this one. Mine just happens to be a BETA brand:
