Hose Reel - 25' or 50' Hose?

I'm planning on a ceiling mount hose reel. Garage is 30X40. I had been thinking about a 50' hose so I would have more than enough hose to cover the entire garage. Reel will be mounted in the center of the garage. My concern is running air tools. The majority of my mechanical work is done within 15-20 from the hose reel. Would I be better off with the 25' hose reel and then just buy an extra section of hose for the times when I need more length?

Thanks

Is the concern that you will be restricting flow by running more length than you need? If thats the concern, unless you are running right at your compressors limit in terms of volume, the extra 25 ft, isnt really going to do you in. That said, you can always upsize the ID of the hose to minimize loss.

If it were me, I'd rather go bigger ID and run the 50 the first time.

I have a 25' hose and wish it was 50' every time I use it. Go for the larger hose reel

As Tim Taylor's neighbor said, "We all need more hose, neighbor!"

My 50-footer is waiting to be mounted on my garage wall. A 25 would have barely reached to the doors and not at all to the far corner; the 50 will let me do things all the way out to the rear of a car in the driveway without hauling out an extension.

I got a 30 by 40 shop I mounted my 50 foot reel right by the overhead door. This way not only could I use it anywhere in the shop. But also outside the shop when needed.

You have to remember that you lose at least 6 feet just getting down from the celing.

That's a great solution. I'd mount mine up front except that I want to keep my compressor on the inner wall and don't want to run hard airlines - so tucking compressor and reel up front where the best power socket is and using a longer reel hose works out great. I may remount the reel sometime later.

I had a 50' until recently. I punctured it, so it became about 30'. My garage is 20x22. I am going to buy a new 50' today. ******* me off that I can't reach a car by the street, or pull it up to the second floor for some finish nail work.

You always need more hose.

I got a 50 foot reel by the door. Also got a 1 1/2 inch dia steel pipe in an open loop around the wall of the shop with an air outlet every 10 foot. I then cut up a old hose and put about 10 foot of air hose where I used air the most at machines and work bench. then If I need 2 air supplys by the machine I use the reel along with the other.

I got 25ft reel and wish I have the 50ft. My cars parked outside and tire inflation required extension of my 25'. It gets cumbersome taking the hose in and out just to small jobs

You will have more frictional pressure drop from the coupling between two 25' hoses than from the 50' hose. There is more restriction to the couplers than most people realize.

The 50' I have isn't long enough to reach out into the parking portion of the driveway all of the way. Definitely AT LEAST 50. Longer could be even better.

I'd say it depends on your compressor size, i have 50 foot and i notice a drop in performance with the longer hose on higher cfm stuff, if you have a decent compressor then go for the extra length, remember you might need to pump up a tyre in the driveway so may need to go beyond the walls of your garage.

Go 50. I was actually considering picking up a 100 footer after seeing how nice and easy and clean the 50 footer makes everything look. I have the 50 footer mounted right next to the garage door so it easily takes care of anything in my single car garage and halfway down my driveway. I then have an extra 50 footer & 25 footer I can use as extensions if needed. It just ***** having to roll up those extra hoses manually sometimes and an eyesore.

Get two one at front of shop another at door, You will find times you need more than one, and then being able to reach a flat tire at the end of driveway is priceless.
