Hose reel and compressor confusion

So im looking at the 25ft hose reel from Harbor freight. I have a Kobalt 30 gallon compressor. The compressor has a quick connect off the regulator. What kind of leader hose and ends do I need to make this work?

I was in Harbor freight yesterday but none of the ******* and threads seem to match up with the ends that are on the hose reel. The hose on the reel is 3/8" but I couldnt find a male end that matched the thread size. All the stuff on their wall appears to be 1/4"

As you can probably tell by my post, I know **** about hose and thread sizes. What type and size of leader hose and hose ends do I need here?

Thanks everyone

I think the confusion is common when first buying this kind of stuff.

There are two parts of the measurement of a hose coupler: the pipe thread part and the coupler part. The most common coupler size is 1/4" (and there are many fitting types; industrial profile is the most common though not the best for air flow). The pipe thread size will depend on the hose (3/8" ID hose usually has 3/8" NPT male threads on both ends) and the tool (tools vary, but many have 1/4" NPT female thread). Probably what you're seeing on the wall at HF is the plugs for the tools, which are usually 1/4" male NPT thread. And maybe some 1/4" female thread.

It's near impossible for me to get leader hose locally; the good hardware stores that'd make 'em for me have disappeared. I now order my leader hoses from McMaster-Carr because they'll make them in any length I want (in 1 foot increments) with whatever fittings I want, using quality rubber hose of my choice diameter, with quick turnaround and cheap shipping. They also carry a pretty wide set of couplers.

I removed the coupler from my compressor and put on a lever shutoff ball valve with a female pipe thread fitting I can attach a normal airline to, to go to whatever my next "stage" is going to be, dryer, hose reel etc.

I removed the coupler from my Rigid and will do the DeWalt the same, installed oil/water seperator on the compressor and then a HVLP coupler. I will do my 120 gal. the same.

Thanks, JASTECH
