The bit in my last post was used for a test-only driver adjustable component...which was ultimately unsuccessful. I was able to snag it from the bin on a "tidy Friday" lab cleanup. I was able to incorporate it into an overkill drawer latch mechanism:

Here's an overall view:

The latch rod is 3/4" round, with hooks bent out of 3/8". Most of the hooks just catch the backs of the drawers, but the top two drawers were too close together to do that, so the 2nd drawer from top got a loop for the latch hook to catch.

The top and bottom arms have bronze bushings in them, and pivot on 3/4" shoulder bolts:

The lever pokes through a slot in the side of the cabinet to actuate the mechanism:

Once I got the latch sorted out, I moved on to making a back panel to finish the cabinet up. Since there's a hydraulic pump in the bottom drawer generating heat, it was the perfect excuse to pop some louvers in it. One row down:

Installed in the cabinet:

I drilled and tapped the frame for #10-32 screws around the flange to attach the panel.

All done minus paint!
