Just a FYI, the more basic nest isn't compatible with the nest app, just Google home. I have two of the nicer learning tstats and thought I would save a few bucks for my third floor, only to need a separate app for it.

Cold temps are here, high of 35 today

My garage stayed at 55 all night, but its time again to turn the gas valves on and power up the HD heater

I am still running the cheap and trusty Honeywell tstat, but I am still looking at Wifi options if I can find a tstat that will be a low temp unit (like my current setup)

Google Nest I think has a 40-70 degree heat temp range

Anyone confirm?

I would just need to run a third wire for the power wire?

Honeywell RTH6580WF has a setting down to 40 degrees

Another year with the heater, just started it up and it's running great

Never had a roof leak either, for those worried about vertical roof venting

I just finished installing a Nest for a friend today. We had to get the Nest Power Connector, but that allowed for a 2-wire setup. One catch was that the software installed on the Nest out of the box did not support that adapter, so it would drop WiFi and run off batter when it turned the heat on, but after an update I got it to recognize, and it works great.

Still want me to find out what the supported temperature range is?

For general reference and info documentation, sure if you don't mind along with a model number of the tstat you used

Working great so far this year, zero maintenance required since installing.....other than the burner pinch weld mod

Zero leaks also front the vertical roof vent

I wanted to go some maintenance before heater season starts

I took the side inspection panel/cover off and vacuumed what I could.

It was pretty clean inside

I fired up my air compressor and adjusted the PSI to around 40, to blow out the inside

Turned thr gas on in the basement and bled the line. Garage heater fired up and ran fine for 10 minutes

On a side note, the utility company came out recently and replaced a leaking NG shut off valve near the meter. I was smelling NG during the cold mornings. Said the valve fitting was cracked......strange but it was free

Turned both gas valves on and turned the heater on for the first time this season

Zero issues running great!
