Not to be a debbie downer, but just because you force someone to make an account doesn't mean they'll contribute

I will second that, I think it's a fair point. I'm curious what the actual data will end up reflecting, I think that should drive the solution, if one in fact needs to be had at all.

I don't see the need to have even more 5 post accounts floating around, if they were to post at all. And to put it behind a post number wall just seems silly, not like hot deals gets spammed.

True but if it Ryan sets it up like Free Parking, you would have to be signed in to see it. There are places where some members can't visit GJ while at work nor can they sign in while on a work PC.

It would prevent people copy the link/screen shot the deal or whatever and posting it elsewhere online.

I know what they meant, and whats to prevent someone from making an account and doing that anyways? Just seems like a waste. I know Free Parking was hidden to help combat spam, which I think it did, but Hot Deals doesn't suffer from that.

It's true - members can't be forced to participate - although I think there are forums that drop members based on a lack of participation. But making Hot Deals only accessible to members will cut down on a lot of potential "poaching".

Post count would work. No access to Deals without ** number posts

Free Parking was also hidden to keep it at bay from the causal internet surfer. Ryan would rather have people come to GJ participate and then socialize in Free Parking. It keeps people from coming here just for "Free Parking". Free Parking is where a majority of the problems come from and where a majority of the bans start.

If Hot Deals is a logged in members only section, it basically becomes a privilege over anyone else just visiting the site.

I think it should be a Member Privilege. I post deals for members benefit, not for the internet. Some deals are very limited and should be only for the members on here to benefit from. Amazon Warehouse Deals are One item only and usually gone in 5min, as an example.

Ryan mentioned back in post #5, he was going to monitor the situation. Maybe he got busy with more important issues or it's not as bad as everyone thinks.

There's many members here that don't post but peruse the forum.

There are a number of folks who post deals in AWD, I would guess all feel that way, I certainly do. My deal posting is sporadic, but I do post deals. Just depends on the busy cycles of life.

It is a cool feeling to know you helped out another GJ member, I know during covid I posted a deal on a 5 hp dual stage 80 gallon compressor. A member bought it. 500 pound item! I corresponded with him. He was very happy with it after it arrived. I felt good, I had been wanting a new one for myself and waited a long time because of the supply chain issues back then. Found another and boom, went to another GJ shop!

It would be an incentive to post deals.

I guess @Ryan, who gets a benefit from a sale (which I am happy about), has to weigh it. Perhaps the lurkers drive up sales to the benefit of the site, I don't know.

As with Bruce posting has become more sporadic due to the ebb and flow of family life. I too also post because its nice to contribute something that may benefit someone else on the site as I have benefited from other's posts or answers to questions I may have in my own posts so I feel its an easy way to give something back. While I would love to be more idyllic and naive to think every item is going to be used by a GJ member, it is a little disheartening to see something that you post end up on Facebook MP or eBay but its the internet and it is what it is.... However, if there was a way to maximize at least the opportunity for GJ members I would be for that as an option.

Hey guys... Sorry for my lack of communication on this. Right now, I am just too busy to instigate any wholesale changes like this. This fall and winter were spent exclusively behind a keyboard and that puts me in a dark place. So, I've been spending the last month or so out in the shop as much as possible. Once I get through some of these projects in the shop, get my head right, and feel like I can effectively man the keyboard - I will take a look at all this.

Until then, if the deals section is disrupted my members - just report it and I will take care of it.

Any further thoughts on this @Ryan? Recently, there were five 20% off Zoro promo codes posted in the Hot Deals sub forum, all of which were used, with no acknowledgment. So, were they used by members, or poached by lurkers?
