It depend what you want to do with it.

I have a King Canada the same size as this one. Perfect for nail gun and such but forget about using an impact wrench or painting, it's useless for that.

Also don't believe the specs! Yes it will give 5CFM...for one second only!... after that it fall rapidly.

But yeah, i'ts not 400$ either and it's portable.

I wanted to add to this thread as it's one of the first one's popping up on a google search for "Hot Rod" compressor. There always seems to be a lot of these compressors available on Kijiji for between $120-150.

I've owned this unit since 2004 or 2005 and it sees moderate use in my home garage for (frequent) wheel swaps, brake jobs, and suspension work, as well as for filling car, truck and bike tires. I use mainly the Hot Rod branded tools that were sold with this as a kit, and some additional Princess Auto wrenches. I run a VERY long air hose (50ft plus 50ft).

This unit has run FLAWLESSLY for 10 years. I've never changed the oil. I run it in the winter (unheated garage) to top up tires. It may run the pump a lot due to the small capacity (for example when swapping wheels), but it's built for a 75%+ duty cycle and has been used flat out by me many times. This thing owes me NOTHING.

Only caveat is that you need to find impact wrenches and other tools made to run with low-CFM compressors. If you get the right tools, it has not problem running impact guns and air wrenches.

If you can pick one of these up used in good shape, it's a great little home mechanic's unit.

Small tanks and low CFM compressors are HORRIBLE for even DIY users trying to run impacts or air ratchets. They are made for nail guns. Minimum for a 1/2" impact is a 20-30 gallon tank. They are noisy as hell. I have used low end, mid range, and high end, and can tell you if you want to run an impact you should start at mid range unless all you're using is a nailer or maybe tire inflation. What takes 20 minutes with a low end takes 20 seconds with a mid range. This is no joke.
