I’m picking some electrical minds now.

60 amp circuit is required, a disconnect within visual is required, sub panel is considered a disconnect. A GFCI breaker is required...

Should this be installed at the main or at the sub? Or does it matter?

Edit; I put it in the main.

When I bought my house it had a broken hot tub. The main breaker had a 50A breaker, then there was an outdoor sub panel with 20A and 30A double pole GFCI breakers that fed the tub. One was for the heater, the other powered the pumps and lights.

Install it on the main pannel if you can. Use a dosconnect by the tub. There usualy a bit cheaper than a sub pannel.

The sub panel can be used as a disconnect...
and you could put the GFCIs there, or in the main panel.
Also, check to ensure you only need one circuit to feed it.

There are some rules about the ground wire too, it's been a while since I read it and don't recall the language, something about insulated wire etc.

I would put a 60a GFCI spa panel by the tub and a regular 60a in the main or sub depending on existing load.

What are the make and model of the main and subpanel you have?

60A Must be a nice tub! Looks like you've been given good advice above, can't really add anything more.

It can't hurt to go right to the service main with something quite safety sensitive about grounding as a tub, no daisy chain for it so to speak, direct is best.
