Hot water heater problem

I just installed a new hot water heater (gas) now when it kicks on it makes a foghorn noise. Any help would be appreciated

Sounds like the burner is not adjusted properly ? Does it have a power vent or just old school with a pilot ? If it is power vent could that be making the noise ?

As much as I try to do everything myself if I was installing a new gas water heater I would probably pay somebody to come out and do the final adjustments.

are you on NG or LPG? is the jet and regulator set up for the type gas you have?

Sounds like a burner/ value issue .. I have had the basic tank type make that noise every once in a while. I always figured it was the way the valve opened or maybe the pressure in the line was off at the moment.

My guess is the valve ... unless something really off .. like a propane unit on a NG line

Yes, the valve will make that noise if it's opening too slow or sticking. It might quit after a weeks use. If not then I'd say a faulty gas valve. Newer small body gas valves are great for tight spaces but a pile of **** compared to the older larger style.

Need to check gas pressure with a manometer and air adjustment on burner. On the gas valve usually theirs a allen plug bottom of the valve to check pressure. 3.5" for natural 11" lp
Threads for gas pressure 1/8" pipe.

Maybe you are putting cold water in your hot water heater that could cause all sorts of problems

I had a water heater that did that. I just turned the gas valve down a little.

I have a point of use at me kitchen sink...And I just realized, it is plumbed as an actual hot water heater.

Though technically it doesn't heat once hot water reaches it. But I could set it high and my whole house water heater low and then the POU would truly be a hot water heater.

Because that's how a thermostat works. Yes...it does indeed heat hot water.
