I want to thank everyone for their input. I have been outside doing yard work and the weather was beautiful. I took a shower and I did not notice any stinky water, so far so good. I don't have a keen since of smell so I ask my wife. The smell was so bad that it permeated throughout the house.
To answer a couple questions, when I drained down the hot water tank to pull the old anode rod black water came out of the drain. I was concerned about the septic system with shocking the well too often.

One thing about the Powered Anode Rod, the website I bought it from says the difference between the warranties on hot water tanks (number of years) has to do with the diameter and or number of anode rods that come in the new hot water heater. They can have two or more. As time goes by they are consumed and become less effective. The Powered Anode Rod is suppose to be consistent at protecting your hot water tank. It does more than just fix your stinky water. ( or I was sold a bill of goods) lol

My old house was so bad, I went through rods in a week or two. I eventually just removed them and lived with it. My water always had that black junk in it and it drove me nuts. I always wondered if the powered anode was the solution, just couldn't ever find any real world feedback.

Thanks for posting this!

My powered anode rod has been in for over a week now and my water has never been so good. I changed my carbon taste and odor filter a couple of days ago because of low water flow. It was plugged up with iron. I may have to buy a filter with bigger slots. No odor whatsoever.

What is the cause of only one water source smelling? I have 3 full bathrooms in the house but only one sink/shower smells for the first few minutes of use.

Is there fracking going on in the area?

Mark my words, this is just an opinion, but fracking will go down as one of the biggest environmental disasters of all time. Nothing good can come from injecting waste water into the ground.

As I recall his issue was a Zinc anode in well water, changing to a powered anode did away with the issue.

Perhaps you have some galvanized plumbing in that bathroom.

Just thought I'd add another positive experience curing hot water sulfurous smell. I bought a Corro-Protect powered anode rod from Amazon, around $135. Installed, back-chlorinated the heater overnight, and the change is immediate. Very happy family members :)

I had been running the "low smell" passive anode rod and while it helped for a few months to a year after new, the smell returned after that. A new passive anode rod was in the $60 range and I thought this to be a reasonable risk based on the positive experience I read about here.

The mfg claims a 20yr warranty on the powered anode rod itself.
