I have this hot water tank I want to put in my shop just to have a little domestic hot water if needed. But I'm not sure which side is cold and which is hot. Any suggestions? Thank you

the hot is most likely the least corroded brass connector, the one in the right of the picture. to be sure , take the connectors off, the cold inlet will have a plastic tube in the center, called a dip tube. that sends the unheated water to the bottom of the tank

actually when I blow up the picture, the tag on right says do not apply heat to this connection. that's probably the dip tube ( cold side)
