Hotsy Pressure Washer

I recently purchased a hotsy pressure washer at auction model 555ss. It has a burner on it to heat the water. I have not had a chance to hook up water to it to try it out mainly because its so cold outside and the hoses are all froze up but I did turn the pump on for a second and it works. Only thing that didn't turn on was the burner but I am wondering if it has to have water running through it in order for the burner to turn on? It would make sense so you don't fry the coils. Anyone know the answer to that? Thank you

That is correct they have to have to have water and pressure being made by the pump. We have had two of them where I work and they were both that way.

We used to have one at work many years ago. We used it for cleaning air-conditioners and other too, but mostly air-conditioners. It worked great but it got old and had issues so we got rid of it. We ended up getting just a small pressure washer with an electric motor on it. It worked OK, but was nowhere near as nice a unit for cleaning air-conditioners.

The darn things are expensive! I picked this one of from the govt and the lady told me it worked good but like I said I haven't used it yet. I paid $400 for it but pricing new ones they run over a couple grand. Crazy.

Big,
Im a hotsy dealer.. btw great entry level machine.
Just remember to NEVER RUN IT WITHOUT WATER!
Also, the unloader only carries about a cup of water.. dont set the wand down and walk away while it is running. You rick the seals in the pump.
It also has a thermal pump protector. (Little brass plug with a black plastic spigot) water will piss out of that if the pump gets hot.
Finally, make sure it is plugged into a 20A socket.
It will run on 15A but the gfi gets hot. Then will need to be turned off to cool down before restart.
Good luck.

Ah ha, a Hotsy dealer. Let me get the model, I have an unloader question if you are a tech kind of guy and familiar with older units. 500 gallons of water in an insulated truck body, have another hi vol pump in it too at 50 gpm.
I was going to fix it up a little but don't need to in the sense it works good. If I was a daily driver would like a bigger unit but it is really hot, I washer some pine sap off a truck bed that really would have been a mess.
I got the major parts for free. Had the truck and the tanks. Bought a valve I found I had later but it was ok, I put a new hose on.

Berry.. Cool old school rig! Any way you can shoot me a pic of the build plate.
I can get the model serial and build date off that.
You will have to deal with your local Hotsy dealer, but I can help you identify parts..

I will have to get the model, I cant recall now but it was popular, a bit small with the 11 hp on it but 4 gpm at 1200 and its really hot. The pump is old, really groans if you turn it up and the unloader had a crack from frost in a seat and I been trying to dial it in, the pressure wants to creep with it unloaded.
I made a no flow for the burner but its operator fussy and don't trust it all like I might a new unit especially with greenhorn operators want to dodder.
I havnt hit the relief yet but it wants to pressure up if you are not careful, I was hoping to make it more consistant. I plugged the burner in thru a wireless recept control and have th3e pendant on a keychain.
I see the pic of it may not be complete, looks like an exhaust pipe may not be in.
I have an Alkota in the shop. Its had a revision since the pic and got one more coming eventually to clear up a couple code and placement issues. It was on wheels when I got it and that was somewhat a problem. If I was to do it again wouldn't get a portable, would plumb it to a stand alone burner. It has been a super unit. Bought it in 84 maybe.
Its 5 gpm and makes a lot of hot, really good for cleaning dirt and de icing, lotso water.
