Have you tried rust removal by chelation? Might save some of the coarser sanding? Good pictures in the "restoring old vises" section. Build a bunch of wooden drawers to surround and separate those toolboxes. Makes the mismatch look intentional.

The wood shelves catch and hold dust. Leaf blower works. Might use ventilated shelves or add skirt or doors. There is a post here where a guy did that and it looks awesome.

Are there any specific rules against movable storage? I have an acquaintance who purpose built a cargo trailer and moves it around the yard every spring. Might build the 10 x 8 first. Then the cargo trailer. A brown job box will take a lot of weather and is pretty low profile. Build a deck with removable floor panels to cover. Cover three of them with cushions and call it a cabana. How tall a 10 x 8 can be built? Are tree houses allowed? Store stuff there and relive your childhood. Can you build a pool house, playhouse, or outdoor kitchen that is actually storage? Mother in law apartment? Artist studio?

Is your HOA builder owned? Elected? Professionally managed? There are many posts about how to manage or at least cope with each on the internet.

Your compressor is small enough to cast some concrete rings like clay chimney flue. Stain. Wrap in fence boards. Plant bushes. Put inside a junk AC condenser housing. Move the noisy thing outside?

Chelation as in electrolysis? I have used electrolysis but at least the top box that I have done so far it was kind of overkill, wasn't too much rust. I hand sanded the drawers and only employed the palm sander to speed up cleaning up the big straight sides of the cabinet.

The bigger roller might be an electrolysis candidate, maybe.

That is a lot of suggestions and I MIGHT HAVE found a workable solution, I made a topic about it here. CLICK

We are deed restricted, hoa, professionally managed, and I have no issue with it to be honest. I like that my neighborhood is well kept and the home values pretty much only go up.

So I got the top snap-on box refinished, looks pretty good IMO. I need to clean up the handles though, the side handles and the front lid handles are rusted and pitted, how would you guys advise I attack this?

Thank in advance!

How about sandblasting and a hammered silver paint or maybe Snap-on has replacements available. Nice job BTW.

soak in apple cider vinegar???????????????????????????

I don't have a sandblaster but this worked though. Apple cider vinegar and a little light wire brushing and they look pretty damn good.

thanks!

I didn't take a picture but the front cabinet handles actually came out like new money with some vinegar and a wire brush, I suppose cause they were originally chrome.

looks good! I'm going to do mine one day when my project list shortens. I know...the list only gets longer.

After doing the top one it won't seem so bad. Just think how much better it will be when they match.

Just finished reading all messages here in this thread. You got nice garage there! I hope you can overcome that restrictions because you got a nice roomy land too! ;)
