Housewarming gift

My buddy takes possession of his first house tomorrow at 22 years old. Looking for ideas on what to get him for a house warming gift that would be useful. Trying to stay tool related but am up for any suggestions.

The back ground... Its a new build in a newer community. He already has all the standards as we're pretty into cars so wrenches, screwdrivers and sockets he already has. I'm looking to stay around 100 as I'm still a student and don't want to break the bank. I was thinking a nicer cordless drill and found some on amazon for around 140 but thats just a bit more than what I want to spend.

What do you guys think would be a good gift?

I am a recent home buyer myself (at 26) and have a pretty good assortment of tools (especially automotive) so I feel like I can offer the advise from your buddy's perspective.

1) A gift certificate to the local hardware (ACE, Orchard, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) store will go a long way.

2) Depending on the house configuration, perhaps a seperate small tool box for just in the house. Since we are in the process starting to decorate and update things like outlets and switches its annoying having to go into the garage (which is detached in my case) and get a screw driver, hammer, level, tape measure, etc.... So now I basically am in the process of creating my own little tool box for the house. Really its just an excuse for more tools and keeps the wife from rummaging through my tool box and then not putting things away for when I need them...

For $100 you could easily get some of the basics for a secondary set or just go with the gift certificate route which will be used in the first weekend when the wife/girlfriend wants to paint or get flowers to make it pretty...

Also on a seperate note I recomend that when he changes his address through the post office he selects receiving coupons. While most of it is junk, I get Lowes, Ace and Orchard coupons all the time. The Lowes ones are great because its like $10 off, 10% off, etc. I save them up and use keep them in my truck so when I make a stop at the Home Depot (which will use their coupons) I can save a few bucks here and there. I would estimate that in the 2 months since we bought our house I have easily saved $100 from coupons because my Home Depot matches the competetors (including Harbor Freight).

You're a student, so I say to save your money and get him a nice bottle of Bourbon or his favorite beer. That way, you get to celebrate the housewarming. Come back later to help him build the first workbench.

Get him a gift card to sherwin williams. It'll give him an excuse to go to a good paint store and you'll be saving him a lot of unnecessary aggravation down the line.

If you want to stay tool related and not go down the GC route, Id recommend electrical household tools like a decent multimeter, voltage tester, receptacle tester, etc....then again it is a new house so he may not have a need for that stuff right away.

I believe this is the drill that is usually around $99 at the box stores. Shop around

No lawn yet as its just dirt. I did offer to help sod though as I've got lost of experience with that

I do like the Gift Card ideas that were thrown out there becasue he knows what he would need better than I do. However I think we decided to go another direction. There's 3 of us in the group and were pretty close. Me and the other guy talked and were going to split a bottle of parton, a nice bottle of whiskey, 3 glasses and I've got 24 beer left over from last weekend. We'll see where that leads us.

Feel it should be more of a celebration. Besides helping him do things like build that work bench and paint would go way further than any $100 gift I think.
