of the floor that is. The electrician had some time to kill this morning and came and wired up the lift. :rocker::rocker:

No more laying on a creeper on my back trying to change the oil. Momma's car goes up 6' with overhead clearance and I can walk under it. I haven't had the truck on it yet though to see how much room I have. I might have to change the oil from sitting on a seat for the truck. :dunno: I'll have to try it on for size later.

The lift used to belong to Diesel Dan. He bought a larger lift and graciously sold me his old one.

BTW...the lift is a WORTH, 9,000 lb. lift that is Made in the U.S.ofA.

Wycked.....Welcome to Garage Journal!!!!!

A lift has been on my wish list ever since I have had a garage, probably 35+ years now. Although I had to add on to my existing garage to get it done.

Both knees are totally shot with arthritis, and I can't get down on them anymore, so now I can stand up to do things.

Lifts are cool! Now you need one of those tall oil drain things, maybe a transmission jack and some tall stands!

Did I mention that lifts are cool?

Mr.Kevin glad you've finally got you a lift. I don't want to highjack your post; but I have a great story about a lift I acquired from a close friend. Go back in time: February 2011 just finished having my 30x30 building/garage/street legal racecar shop completed!!! Yeah I was very happy, being I had never owned one of my own. Fast forward a little. June 1st 2011 I was in a work related forklift accident. Changed my life forever. Anyway, ff a couple of years, my close friend has a 7000lb lift that he wants to get rid of, and all he wants for it is the $300 he gave for it. He also had a 65' C10 stepside he was wanting to sell. He told me if I bought the truck he'd give me the lift. So, I told him I would like to have the lift and if he could to hold onto it until I could come up with the $$$ for the lift only. A couple days went by and he calls to tell me to just come get the lift for free. He said that I had worked on all his cars and trucks an never asked for as much as a dime. Well long story short , my wife decided that she wanted the 65' C10(Bessie) so her and I could go to some of the local drivin's. The truck was a killer deal that we couldn't pass up!!! I love my lift very much; but I really am not able to use it very much. I have found out in life that it pays in more ways than one to help people out while your able; cause one day you might be the one that needs the help!!! Sorry again Kevin and I really hope you enjoy many years of fun out of your lift!!!

looks great!!! Once you get a lift, your days of rolling around the floor are over. Don't get rid of your jack or jackstands, I still use mine every now and then. You will also see how much easier it is to work on things standing up with the suspension fully dropped out of the way.

Here are a few items you will want to get now that you have a lift.

Tool cart like the HF 4 or 5 drawer one with a top you can keep tools on while working on the car. before I got my lift I was used to rolling around on the floor with my tools like everyone else. When you do a break job, or any other job standing up, the floor isn't a handy place to keep your tools anymore. My $99 4 drawer service cart follows me under the lift wherever I go.

Oil drain pan on wheels. I have the 20 gallon one from HF and love it, since I only pump it out once or twice a year. They also make a 5 gallon model. They go on sale often.

Mid rise jack stands. These work great for holding axles in place when working on suspension. Holding up exhaust when working on it. Supporting an oil pan when pulling a Trans.

The last one is a tall transmission jack. I've also used mine to do other stuff like dropping fuel tanks.

Enjoy your new lift.

:wtf:Oh hell no!!! The diesel was the Caprice and I'm guessing it was ruined a week after I got rid of it. It got filled up with regular gas and they had it running off and on trying to keep it running

The car on the lift is momma's '64 Cutlass 'vertible.

You don't need a lift, you have a big forklift at work. BESIDES.....all you had to do was cut two holes in your ceiling for 1' of the lift, and you could have bought it for $1.00 more.

That's a nice addition to the new garage.

And, a great example of what makes GJ the awesome place it is - all about the people helping each other.

Looks good. Too good! How do you have so little junk in your garage? Or is this a brand new build that has a thread I've missed?

Nice, Congrats.. its a wonderful thing.
I just put mine up about 3 weeks ago, but my shop has been built for 3 years!
I have not had a lift to work on my cars since i closed my other shop in 2006!
things are just so much easier with a lift, it was a joyful moment for me
and i didnt waste anytime, I finished installing it on a saturday morn and by the afternoon was re-installing the trans in my race car!:3gears:

You missed the thread (in my sig) this is the new addition. All the stuff is jam packed up in the existing garage. I also have a bumpout on the side that once everything is drywalled, my rolling tool boxes, overhead cabinets, bench, all go into. That way the new addition, and the main garage will all be decluttered.

There was a thread on it. The car was a '85 (I can't remember the exact year right off) and was a one owner, low miles. Super, super, clean, but it was a diesel. I'm a gas person myself. So I sold the car to a guy and his wife from Chicago. About a week later he calls and ask if I ever had problems keeping the car running. I tell him "no", and he proceeds to tell me that he has been working on it for a while. It would run then die, run then die. He said it started doing it right after his wife filled it up. :scared: Yep.....she filled it up with gas

40 pages! I've gone through your first few posts so far. That's more like it, "stuff" wise.

Congrats on the new lift! It will quickly become the most essential tool in your shop. I swear every house that has a garage needs to just come with a lift.
