This is a pretty big forum, and I'll bet there are a bunch of guys here who either work on airplanes and aviation stuff or fiddle with it as a hobby.

How about a sub-forum called "The Hangar?"

Heck, I'd be up for that. My aircraft experience in the military was ordnance - and not the plane itself - but I'd like to learn something new.

Yep, field developed as we don't have them at the factory. I generally ran either a MJ-1 or a MHU-83, depending on what we were loading, and whether it was a -16 or a -35. 35C model is the most nerve racking for the jammer guy, as clearances are in inches for some things.

As factory guys, we cover everything on the airplane, with only a single split... the coneheads do all the electronic boxes, the gun and flight control operations, us gorillas have everything else on the bird.

I was lucky - I got assigned to an A-10 squadron, and the planes had only been around a couple of years. So, relatively clean, and had high ground clearance, so, getting under the wings to load is not bad.
The real fun part was loading the GAU-8 gatling gun. Special machine was hooked into the underside of the plane up by the cockpit, and then an ammo trailer was pulled behind the machine (i.e. the loader was between the plane and the trailer). We were up on top connecting plastic tubes with live ammo in them with nylon rings. As the live ammo went in, the empty brass came out the other end and we collected it. 1150 rounds in about 7-8 minutes if everything was clicking! Man, those were the days!

I was also qualified to run the APU, so if we needed to do electrical checks I would sit in the cockpit running the systems while my partner was checking out the pylons. All eleven of them!

Dynon glass panel. Two, actually. Two ADAHRS, two GPS antennas, Dynon transponder.... you get the idea. Everything is connected by serial bus, just like a computer system. 2-axis autopilot. Garmin audio panel and radio.
