I don't care too much if mine are dirty unless it's the ones I use inside cars. I try and keep those clean. The regular sockets are wiped down if grease gets on them or brake fluid otherwise no worries. Keeps them from rusting!
I don't polish them or anything. I have alot of tools. Just putting them all in the box at the end of the day takes me 15-20 mins.

All my tools get wiped down before going in the box. However like most guys on here organization is more important than anything. Some of my tools look a bit worn..but they still function. Scratches happen.. if you start getting bent up over scratches and nics in tools then you wont sleep at night..lol

I will say that I do spend a bit more time cleaning my soft handled stuff and keep the color bright and clean..

If a tool gets really dirty during a job I will clean it periodically throughout the job just to keep it from slipping out of my hands, but I think this is common practice across the board.

My tools are all usually covered in grease or oil. I don't really "clean" them.. the film keeps them from rusting. I may wipe them down after use but that doesn't remove the grease.

I wipe down everything before it goes back in my box but I don't go too crazy because chances are the same tools will be out again for the next job I'm working on.
