How and where do you mount your vise?

If not, please share.
I am referring to a mechanics vise primarily.
It's something I have fought with myself for a long time: How, and where is the best way to mount a vise? Middle of a work bench? On the end? Quick mount? Pedestal? Multiple locations?
I am anxious to see what you guys have come up with.

I've seen a few mounted on old wheels or rims, so that they can be moved anywhere. I personally like mine mounted on the right hand side of work bench, on the end. This way the vise can be used in conjunction with the flat surface of the bench on the left, or rotated diagonal in line with corner of bench and have both ends free of obstruction. A center mounted vise will not allow comfortable/easy use of long wrenches or pry bars like an end mounted vise would.

I mounted mine on the left side of the bench. I put a radius on the corner so you can rotate it without the handle being in the way. I mounted it here since I want a bench grinder on this bench too. I didn't want the grinder next to the new water heater. To be honest, though I'm lefty, I see no issues with mounting a vice on the right or left side since it does swivel. If the vice didn't swivel, I'd assume the middle of the bench might be a option. Then again, you'll probably want that clearance you can have on the edge of the bench. Personal preference I guess?

I mount my vises on wooden bases and usually clamp them to the workbench top. That means no holes in the bench top along with an easy to move vise. It works for me because my shop always seems to be moving around.

One on the corner of my workbench close to the small door. One that can be mounted to the car trailer for repairs etc at the track.

I have mine on either side of the bench and one on a pedestal. Had I been able to lay my shop out differently, I would have mounted on in the center of the bench.

Most useful is on a post, welded to a steel plate, bolted to the floor. If you have enough working room, forgo the swivel base.

I have two; one on a mobile pedestal and one on a bench. The ability to move one around the garage or out in the driveway saves so much time.

The pedestal is a wheel rim with a pipe flange bolted to it, connected to a 30" pipe with another flange bolted through a flat piece of steel to the vise (Wilton 1745).

The rim doesn't have wheels mounted; I just use the handtruck and drop it wherever.

I've had bench mounted and recently had a friend give me one on a rim that is mobile. I'll never have one on a bench again. I can put items at any angle and if the job is messy I roll it outside.

I've got a big vise mounted on my workbench with lag screws, a small vise bolted to my welding table, and an extra one with a hitch mounted vise plate that I don't use much.

I've never liked having a vise on a mobile stand/base, unless it's bolted to the floor. I am thinking about moving my bench grinder to a mobile stand though.

I am thinking I will leave the one on my bench as it is, and get a second vise on a pedestal for flexibility. I like having options. Thanks again for the input.

I bought a grinder stand at H-F and welded a donut tire to the base.

I love it, it's easy to roll to where I want it and it is the best welding positioner I've used.

I have another bolted to the corner of a workbench. By mounting it diagonally on the corner, I can use it perpendicular to one side of the bench/parallel to the the other, or diagonally. I find it to be most versatile.

Mine's on the right corner of my bench. To me the most important attribute is solidity. My bench is fastened to the floor and wall. I hate a vise that moves around.

Ideally, you'd mount a vise to the top of a solid post that's anchored into the ground with lots of room all the way around it.
