Well they are not a scam. I am putting up my kit now, Some materials were damaged in shipping and i am looking to get that corrected. The plans are kinda weird but the building was cheap. The plans are pretty much a cheap online building software. But i can say the kit is very complete. I didnt realize the kit wasnt from Ohio it is from a local pole barn place diy collects orders for.

If I recall the only thing they do is submit a list of materials to your local lumberyard, and have them deliver it. if you are serious abouyt building a polebarn, get a hold of the local real lumberyard and talk with one of the salesman. He will have a better idea of what's normally used in your area and have a better idea on snowloads, etc.and local /regional differences in the way things are put together. In the end you'll be happier than going through an entity you'll never get to talk to or ask questions of during the build process.

yeah the thing is there isn't really a lumber yard really close to me.... and don't really have anyone where i'm at for recommendations. I'm almost to the point of just driving around and looking for garages and buildings and knock on the door and ask who/where they got there materials and labor

Got a 30 x 72' from them. Lumber was top quality and the inspector even mentioned it beat the local guy's kits. In fact the local inspector admits the local yard does not meet code. He has brought it up with them and their response is they sell kits. The buyer should know what code is and spec the proper material. Local place could'nt beat DIY quote anyway. Plans could have been better on some detals but DIY took care of any questions within hours of the request. Extra lumber in the kit and did not have any wants for anything. High quality kit and top notch support. I will highly recommend Mike and Brad.

Yes, take the time to lay things out right first. Spent more time doing that than the actual build. Goes quick if things are right from the start. Work with them and you learn they are good people to work with. No problem at all. Tell Randy from the thumb sent ya!
In fact I need to call Mike.

Newgarageguy,

I see you are from Sanford NC. I just ran into this post while looking at polebarns myself. I live in Sanford have you tried Lee Builder Mart, they gave me a quote from the USDA plans that I took to them. Might be an option, if you need help I might be able to help to learn how to put one up before I build mine.

I'm cheap. Those 6x6's are costly, so since I have plenty of cedar, I just cut & drag cedar out of the woods. About 10 bucks in gas cuttin' & draggin'. Still have to buy the rest of the lumber and metal, but not having to buy the 6x6's saves enough money to help pay for the rest. We don't have codes though.

I remember a bad storm came through about 6 years ago and my neighbors professionaly built 30x50 flew through the air in pieces, while my old 20x30 cedar pole building stayed planted. Mine is a clearspan slant roof with one piece rafters from the 1800's. I built it cheap as I could, been pretty lucky. I built it for the horses to have shelter, .. never woulda thought I'd end up having to twist wrenches IN IT.

when I built my garage 15 years ago, the cool thing was garage kits from local lumber yards that included everything and plans. I went to copelands and figured and priced on my own, and I save a ton over the kit. I would price the cost of having a footing poured, and build a stick frame building. You can have gravel floors and pour cement later. Not all that much difference and a better bldg., especially if you put it up your self which isn't rocket science. Something like that goes up fast, especially if you have a few friends, and some one knows a little about building. good luck bob
